Today we’d like to introduce you to Mishka Smith.
Mishka, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
At the young age of ten, I wanted an SLR film camera, however, my parents thought that I was too young and wouldn’t be able to handle it, so I started my journey with a lot of disposable cameras. After many visits to the store, my stepfather finally gave in and got me an SLR film camera complete with a bracket and flash arm. I was on top of the world, photographing anything and everything and everyone including my parents over and over again.
Later in high school, I was introduced to photoshop and graduated to using my teachers DSLR camera. After receiving my first job, I purchased my DSLR. I have always had a great interest in photographing people and events, which lead to acquiring skills in various genres of photography after getting married and starting a family my perspective on Legacy changed which influenced the naming of my company Visions of Legacy LLC.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Photography has been a part of my personal development and growth. It also continues to teach me the importance of valuing oneself and people and the moments that makeup life. My hope is that others are able to connect with their unique value and its connection to their legacy. As a photography educator, one of my greatest joys in life is building connections with creatives and watching their confidence develop through educational empowerment.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
As successful artists, in my opinion, we are problem solvers with the courage to never give up on ourselves and our art. I also believe that as a successful artist we are continuously educating ourselves and developing our self-awareness. This is important because when we receive outside opinions about our art positive or negative, knowing who we are and the reason why we do art helps build artistic resilience.
