Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Rogers Jr.
Arthur, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
A native of North Carolina with parental roots from Sint Eustatius, Trinidad and North Carolina, Arthur is a US Army Veteran and a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Communications Arts with a concentration in Illustration.
Arthur’s career path has provided him with a wealth of experience while holding positions in several design firms and advertising agencies, and serving as a College Instructor and Department Chair. His artistic skill set includes: Illustration, Graphic and Web Design, Videography, Photography and once again, Painting.
After a 12-year layoff from Painting or Drawing of any kind, these works represent his return to his initial passion. This is a new beginning to his chosen subject of “I’m Painting MAS!” (MAS=Masqueraders). It is a celebration of life, the pageantry and music of the Islands.
In addition to the many projects Arthur has worked on over the last ten years, he has completed projects for several well-known American companies, to include;
The Smithsonian, The White House, The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, John Rupert Design, MGM, DreamWorks, HBO, the New York Times, Disney and many others.
Arthur’s Wife, Joanne, is a native of Trinidad and Tobago and a talented Photographer. Together they have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. They currently reside in Charlotte, NC.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Artist Statement
I want to share my love for the music and culture. The music energizes me and fuels my visions as I transfer them to the canvas. My goal is to have everyone feel the vibes as I do, to see the vibes as I do. This is the best way I know how.
The culture is Caribbean and the music is Soca. Soca gives Carnival life.
Soca is life and playing Mas ( Masquerade) during Carnival is the way to show the world the joys of life itself. Listen!
Carnival represents a time where all people of all walks of life, regardless of income or social status, culture or race, are able freely express themselves with one other in a celebration of life. It is the best example of how life should be.
To quote a leader in Mas, “Now that you have seen it, aren’t you happy?” _ Peter Minshal
So I ask, “Can you hear the painting?” I’m Painting Mas!
How can artists connect with other artists?
I have the best circle of friends who also happen to be artists. Having those other artists around has definitely improved my drive to be better. We feed off of each other and share opportunities that may come along that alone we would never had known about. No one judges anyone for by their work. We just appreciate the common goal of making art. Our journey is a shared experience that kind of just started and continues to grow. It is good to know the contemporaries where you practice your craft. Get to know them and the art collectors in your city and watch your world expand dramatically!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?

Currently, I am working out of an in-home basement studio, but I am actively looking for an out of home studio space. I have and continue to show my work at galleries throughout the Charlotte Metro area.
I am an Art Pop member of the 2018 and my painting titled “MAS” can be seen throughout the city of Charlotte on billboards at various locations from Adams Outdoor, Uptown newsstands from Center City Charlotte Partners! Ballantyne Commons electronic billboard by Audience Media, and several kiosks throughout Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
