Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Nedd Bridgeman.
Hi Keith, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began dancing at a very young age. I would always be the kid dancing to the music at all of the family functions. My family nicknamed me “crazy legs” because I would dance with just my legs at first. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, but I ended up moving to North Carolina and it wasn’t until college that I was introduced to a new level of dance through an organization called Couture. Being a part of Couture molded me and helped me find myself as a dancer.
From there I decided to take a trip to Atlanta to train in more professional environments. I took classes and performed with my dance crew at the time and was so blown away with how there was a whole dance industry and that you can make a living from it. That trip changed my whole life. I ended up dropping out of college and moving to Atlanta. I auditioned for scholarships at the ATLA Summer Intensive and was awarded a full scholarship to study for a year at “Gotta Dance Atlanta,” which was the leading studio in Atlanta at that time. I gave myself a year to get more polished and versatile with dancing. I took full advantage of the opportunity, at times taking 14 or more classes a week. My goal was to get signed to an agency which would give me representation once I started auditioning for jobs. I would eventually book my first paid job, and which sparked the amazing journey that I am currently on, and I feel so blessed!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not, I’ve definitely had my fair share of challenges. I remember when I first moved to ATL at the age of 20, my apartment I had just rented out ended up flooding and at the same time, my car was overheating and almost blew up. I ended up moving out and also lost my car. This was happening while I was on my scholarship at “GottaDanceAtlanta” taking 5/6 classes a day. I can also say my transition from moving from ATL to LA was another challenge. Not just financially but it felt like I had to rebrand myself and start all over again after five years of building in ATL because I was new to the city. Starting over can mess with your mental because you can loose your motivation and doubt your worth when things aren’t moving how you want them to or used to. There’s a lot of ups and downs when it comes to chasing your dreams but I’m always thankful for the process. And like I say “Trust your dopeness.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional dancer, instructor, and choreographer. I’ve also dipped into some acting as well. I love creating content just as much as I love to dance and perform. I’ve danced and performed with artist such as Hailee Steinfeild, Missy Elliot, Mario, Beyonce, Tinashe, Da baby, & Rosalia, and just worked with The Weekend for the SuperBowl. I’m most proud of my growth as a choreographer and my connection with my students. Also proud of booking my first acting role in the film “Uncle drew” this was the scariest gig of my life because speaking on camera was out of my comfort zone. I think what sets me apart from others is my intention and my personality. Also how light hearted I am, and genuine. Things can get intense in the industry so when I can I try to lighten things up.
What does success mean to you?
Success means different things to different people. My definition of success is accomplishing your goals and growing in whatever your working on or towards. If you can look at your past and see growth I think that’s success. You define that.
