Today we’d like to introduce you to Breana Jeanfaivre.
Hi Breana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Documenting all of life’s special moments, the big, small, and everything in between, has always been something that was important to me. I have always been the one taking the photos and capturing the moments to hold on to forever, so photography was always something I was passionate about even from a young age. Of course, I never took it seriously or ever even considered it to be a career. In college, I studied to be a nurse and eventually went on to be a labor and delivery nurse, but always dabbled in photography as a side hustle and hobby. I began showing off my work in 2019, right in the midst of COVID also, while working as a nurse. I was getting busier and busier with more fantastic inquiries for couples’ sessions, families, maternity, and newborns, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to book everything that I wanted. Fast forward to 2022, I was much more established in the photography community and felt so confident in my work and business. I became a mother to my firstborn, Elijah, and took a long maternity leave from the hospital. During that time, I really allowed my photography business to thrive and see where it would take me if I were to dive headfirst and turn this into my full-time career. Well, it’s safe to say that my little side hobby turned into my full-time job, and I haven’t looked back since! I have photographed some of the most beautiful weddings, couples, little babies, and more, and I can’t wait to continue to see where else this business will take me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As much as we would like for everything to be easy, life is never a smooth road. Without bumps along the way, we would never appreciate how far we have come and enjoy these moments that shape us and our businesses into who and what they are. In the last five or so years, there have been many learning moments for me and that’s just it, you make mistakes, and you learn from them and that is how you grow to be better than ever before. One of the biggest struggles I faced in the beginning was intimidation from all of the talented photographers and artists in our community. When I was just starting out, I always would compare myself to these super-talented and hard-working photographers and would have what they call “imposter syndrome.” I always wondered how would I ever get to where they were. Why were these people booking more weddings and sessions than I was? How could I step up my game and reach my target audience? Somedays, I even questioned why I was doing this at all. And of course, there are still days when these thoughts race through my mind, but I stop and take a look back at how far I have come. Photography is an art, and I am always growing and learning, and building my business to be better than it was the year before. Every challenge that I’ve faced has made me a stronger woman and business owner and has allowed me to serve my people in ways that they deserve to be served!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being a photographer in this era of life can mean a multitude of things because every photographer has a different style, specialty, and vibe during their sessions, so it can often be hard to choose which photographer to book for your special moments. I pride myself in my client’s experience for each step of the booking process up until your final gallery is delivered and downloaded. I love to make my clients feel like themselves and allow them to come as they are. I try my best to make every session as fun and comfortable as YOU as I possibly can. This means shaking off your nerves before we start, playing some music, fun, and exciting prompts to get those smiles and giggles really showing. My style of photography can be described as warm, authentic, candid, and loving. My absolute favorite types of sessions are engagements, couples, and weddings. There is something about capturing those super-in-love and mushy couples and savoring those moments for them to look back on for years to come.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I believe that a successful business was not created overnight and most certainly not by yourself. I have had so many cheerleaders, supporters, and even the most criticizing people to help shape my business into what it is today. My true number-one hype man is my husband, Johnny. I literally would not be where I am today if it weren’t for him, considering he gifted me my first-ever camera for our first wedding anniversary. Who knows if I ever would have had the guts to make the investment in myself and get this thing started? Every time I question myself, he is there to reassure me that my work speaks for itself, or anytime I need to bounce any idea off him, he is there to help pick my brain. Without his love and support, I really don’t know how I would keep myself or our family together! There are also multiple women in this industry and community who deserve credit who have helped keep me sane in moments of insanity: Emily, Bella, and Shelby – you guys are seriously the best!!!
