Today we’d like to introduce you to Chatera “Tera” Unique.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So Jada and I met at a networking event here in Atlanta called showcase club. It’s where 7 teams of 1 photographer and 1 model compete for best photo. The catch is everyone only gets 2 shots. We met when I was competing and she was spectating. Then, we were randomly in the same fashion show back in September by FACEs of Fulton county. We been cool ever since. Then back in December Jada pitched the idea for the Podcast to me and we workshopped it until release!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We find ourselves having TOO many topics to talk about so we have to cut down the content. Or sometimes we get WAY too out of pocket with our responses so we have to be careful not to get too wild because Jada thinks I’m going to ruin us getting monetized and I think she’s going to get us canceled. Another challenge is probably people attempting to drag us in our comments and we both kind of struggle with not reading them for filth and just struggling with ignoring certain comments in general.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a model, actress, cosplayer, writer, and just a creative in general. I’m known for many things, I met a lot of people when I was cosplaying heavily back before covid and during covid. So I think a lot of people know me for that. Other people know me from my modeling which I started in 2020 but started taking seriously a few years ago by just connecting with other creatives in the city. What I’m most proud of is honestly just my audacity in doing what I love. I feel like a lot of people are held back based on expectations from their family, friends, or just society in general. I’ve never been that type. I cannot allow myself to adopt the limitations that people place on themselves and others, simply because it is my life. I think that’s what sets me apart, I don’t mind being the odd one out, weird, or strange because that’s what leads you to discover something new. It’s always weird until it’s cool. I don’t mind being criticized for being early.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up people definitely used to try to clown me for being ‘different’. I was tall, dark skin, wore thrifted clothes, and had a big afro. I really never let any of that stop me from being me. Partially because I thought I was way funnier, cooler, and more original than the people trying to clown. I was talkative and creative. I drew fashion designs in my sketch book and used to love to make my friends laugh, even if it got me in trouble. I was still a good student though, mostly in advanced classes and on the honor roll. When I got to high school I was on the volleyball team, in theater, anchored on the morning show, in DECA, and did the prom fashion show. Due to the fact I was in so many organizations I was cool with mostly everyone no matter their interest or background. My humor became even more unhinged, I’d say bordering on obnoxious and by senior year I was voted class clown. Then later, voted prom queen which I campaigned for by doing the most horrible snapchat stories with a ‘vote for me’ caption on pictures of me with a nosebleed wearing a bonnet and to my surprise, I won. In fact, the principal crowned me the day after he gave me my one and only write up for leaving school to go get food where he caught me with the Zaxby’s bag and cup red handed. #noregrets
