Check Out Kimberly Bowen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Bowen

Hi Kimberly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2017, Kimberly Bowen, a passionate stylist and Penn State & Keller Graduate School alum, founded Mane Hair Salon. Disheartened by the industry’s focus on monetary gains and the lack of inclusivity, Kimberly envisioned a salon that truly celebrated beauty in all its forms. From bouncy curls and vibrant colors to edgy cuts, luxurious locs, and stunning extensions, Mane Hair Salon goes above and beyond to ensure every guest leaves feeling incredible.

Kimberly’s journey began in salons owned by people outside the industry or those catering exclusively to one race. Frustrated by these limitations, she sought to create a space where diversity and individuality could thrive. Mane Hair Salon was born out of this desire to provide an inclusive environment that embraces all hair types and styles.

At Mane Hair, education is the cornerstone of success. Team members have access to a world of opportunities to explore their passions, master new techniques, and unleash their creativity. The salon’s commitment to growth is reflected in monthly education classes, workshops, and active involvement in various educational initiatives across Peachtree City and metro Atlanta. By constantly pushing the boundaries, the team at Mane Hair ensures they are always at the forefront of the industry.

Kimberly’s leadership and vision have transformed Mane Hair Salon into a place where styling hair is just the beginning. The salon crafts experiences, fosters growth, and builds a supportive community. Every day at Mane Hair is a celebration of beauty, learning, and friendship.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the most significant challenges was navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many small businesses, Mane Hair Salon faced closures and a drastic reduction in clientele and income. Adapting to new sanitation protocols, managing reduced occupancy, and ensuring the safety of both staff and clients required resilience and innovation.

On a personal level, Kimberly faced her own set of hardships. She went through a divorce, which was a challenging and emotional time. Balancing her responsibilities as a single parent while running a business added another layer of difficulty. Living away from her family meant she lacked a nearby support system, making her journey even more strenuous.

Despite these obstacles, Kimberly’s determination never wavered. Her ability to persevere through adversity has been a testament to her strength and commitment to her vision. These experiences have only strengthened her resolve to create a salon environment that supports both clients and team members through thick and thin. Along the way, she built a new family of friends and colleagues who became an integral part of her support system, especially Brittany LeBlanc, her friend and business partner, whose unwavering support and dedication have been invaluable.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is my Sweet 16. It was a “Super Sweet 16” before the show even existed! My mom and dad went all out, from designing beautiful invitations to renting a hall and decorating it top to bottom with Valentine’s Day-themed décor. My friend, who was a talented DJ at the time, set the perfect vibe for the night. All of my friends were invited, and we danced the night away. I still have a box of decorations and pictures from that unforgettable evening.
