Check Out Luis Moreno’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Moreno.

Hi Luis , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in Boston, MA where I attended the empire beauty school downtown. I was exposed to an extremely diverse clientele in school and grew a passion for cutting all textures of hair. I worked at my first salon in the city specializing in cutting and styling only then when I applied to work at a salon in Jamaica Plain I began my journey as a colorist under some amazingly talented stylists who will forever be integral to my growth and success as a stylist. I made the decision to come to Atlanta a few years later and started back from square one with zero clients at a commission salon where I worked my butt off for one year before going independent in another salon in Grant Park. I built my standing in Atlanta fairly quickly with my skills in highlighting hair and custom haircuts for all textures of hair. After a few years it was time to rebrand myself and build something of my own so I rented a suite in Decatur GA. I ran that suite for about 5 months before expanding into a larger space. My growth in Atlanta had been fast but I credit my amazing clientele for their trust in me and their loyalty. I know own and run a 2 chair salon in Decatur GA with an employee working for me who is doing wonderfully! Slowly growing like I did when I first moved to Atlanta. The salon specializes in highlights and custom haircuts to suit any texture and length of hair. I’m very proud of the team and what I’ve come to accomplish in just 5 years in Atlanta having started with nothing, just to prove that when you have drive, passion and discipline anything is possible

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest struggle in Atlanta comes down to competition. There is slew of talented and busy hairstylists in the city and having moved here with zero clients I needed to make a name for myself and now for the salon I own with other stylists. Standing out is difficult among such amazing talent but we’ve built a small yet strong following now in Decatur GA. What we do is with love. I know it’s cliche but we are passionate about our work and it speaks for itself when our clients receive a compliment on their hair in public, and also when we get a referral from someone. Word of mouth and our Google listing has brought us so much business and we are so grateful for each and every person that comes into the space I’ve created. Starting my little salon wasn’t easy but a lot of research and talking to my peers in the industry really assisted me in building not only my brand but systems that work.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a color and cut specialist with a niche specialty in cutting curly and textured hair, as well as AIRTOUCH highlighting technique that helps me achieve a beautiful lived in look that not only looks great but grows out seamlessly. I also do balayage and full color transformations for guests wanting a shift in tone or something brighter and bolder. My passion however lies in cutting and styling hair, whether it’s my curly haircuts, long layers or just a simple yet timeless salon blowout that will last you days I truly love what I get to do every day and it shows in my work.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is hanging out with my 4 siblings and growing up together and traveling with my family. I’m very close to my family, and even though nobody is perfect they are perfect to me. We would go on road trips often and camping and visiting new cities and even countries. I had a wonderful and blessed childhood and I bring these memories with me through adulthood now with my fiancé and I doing the same things I loved doing with my family; travel, roadtrips, and exploring new cities and countries
