Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Vaughn.

Melody, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m BACKKKKKKK!

After five years with MG+BW, I opened my own firm Melody Vaughn Interiors, www.melodyvaughninteriors.com and I continued working for builders and developers. I staged some of the most significant new developments in NYC and Newark, as well as private clients in Chicago, DC and beyond.

But like so many small business owners, I had to PIVOT during the pandemic. My small boutique design firm froze; there was no money coming. During the height of Covid, I became creative and began charging for “virtual” design and consulting. But finally, I left New York in 2021 and spent the past year in Florida on a personal passion project called “Healing Homes by Design”.

However, 2023 has called me back to the ATL.

I recently took a position as Sr Design Consultant for Floor and Decor Design Studio in Buckhead.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggle: to proceed with difficulty or with great effort.

Recently I was asked if I had any struggles during my years in business. My answer is YES;… too much too many to share. But what I will say is the struggle is REAL and the biggest lesson from all of my struggles is to keep going, To have faith and trust the process, more importantly the love of what you do must be your why.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Interior Designer, not a Decorator. However, as a designer I do decorate, but my passion is the design. I create spaces that are beautiful and functional. I love knowing the history of the space and who will be enjoying it – I have to know the WHY! My design style focuses on the structure of each space by using the architectural details to create the rhythm and flow and provide for proper use of the space. My goal is to eventually become a builder and create a community of homes that heal.

I love incorporating family history through colors, art and photos in all of my designs. I think it’s important that each home tells a story of who lives in it.

My most proudest moments are so many ….from the amazing projects in the Hamptons to my first Harlem client, those days were magical. However, returning to my childhood home (2021) and sharing my gift with my Mom definitely stands in the top spots…

What sets me apart from most other designers is my connection with spirit and understanding of the importance of what I do. I know the power of living in a beautiful space. I feel it’s not just a luxury; it’s a necessity.

I feel so gratefully humbled and honored every day, knowing I create beautiful spaces that heal.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is preparedness with high expectations, then taking action and having faith. These are the key ingredients to all that I do.

I don’t believe in bad luck I believe in opportunities of growth.
