Check Out Sandy Lee’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Lee.

Hi Sandy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, when asked the infamous question,” What do you want to be when you grow up?” Without hesitation, I would always interrupt and answer “I want to be a nurse!” And that is exactly what I did. Choosing a nursing career has been one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done and yet something was missing. I have always loved the arts, I played the flute for seven years in school. Art was one of my favorite subjects in school and I actually stayed awake during art history in college. Lol

Between the joys of becoming a new mom, wife and finding a work/life balance, I soon realized I did not have a creative outlet. I found joy in planning my son’s 1st birthday party in which I received many compliments for the decor. What started out as a request here and there for a balloon garland soon turned into designing full events. I began honing in on my craft as an event designer by attending workshops from well-known event planners and designers, enrolling in courses, and researching floor plans and layouts. Today I am proud to have a successful growing full-service event design company, Designer Bee Events, LLC.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to Designer Bee Events did have its struggles along the way. “Imposter Syndrome” was one of the biggest hindrances. But I soon began to realize there were many similarities between nursing and event design. Both require attention to detail, the ability to think critically, and the love of service to others. After this epiphany, the road became a little smoother.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Designer Bee Events is a full-service event design company specializing in luxury weddings and events. We take care of all things event design from creating your floor plan to the most intricate detail of your florals. We pride ourselves on creating unique statement pieces that accentuate our client’s individuality, style, and theme.

How do you define success?
I believe success is achieving a personal goal you set for yourself. It cannot be defined by anyone else but you. Success to me is building a company where each and every client is genuinely happy with their wedding/event while having a work/life balance to focus on the most important thing to me, my family.

Pricing:

  • Each of our wedding and event designs are tailored to our clients needs, therefore we do not offer typical packages. We create customized proposals based on our clients’ consultation. Our set up and design fee ranges are typically about 20-25% of the total wedding or event budget. There are many factors that influence the cost of a wedding or event design. Guest count, type of venue, florals and our client’s style are a few major factors. Our smaller, more intimate, weddings and event designs typically start at $5000.
