Today we’d like to introduce you to Shachi Srivastava.
Hi Shachi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has really been about never giving up on what brings life to my soul. I grew up in India surrounded by culture, colors, traditions, and storytelling, and creativity was always a part of me. But I never had formal training in art — everything I learned came through passion, practice, failures, and starting again.
When I moved to the United States, life became a balance of family, responsibilities, and finding my own identity in a new place. Professionally, I built a career in data and AI technology, but art was always where I found peace and strength. No matter what life looked like, I always came back to painting.
Over time, I started sharing artwork inspired by Indian heritage, Madhubani, and stories that connect emotion with culture. I realized people were connecting not just with the art, but with the feeling behind it. Srijan Shachi Art was created to share happiness, healing, culture, and joy through creativity.
The journey has not always been easy, especially as a self-taught artist, but every challenge taught me resilience. I truly believe success and failure are both building blocks, and I accept both with humility and gratitude. Today, I continue creating original artwork, customized pieces, and meaningful art experiences while encouraging others to believe in their passion and keep going, no matter how hard the journey gets.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was taking that first step outside my comfort zone and sharing my creative visual expressions with others. Art is very personal to me, so showing my work to the world made me feel vulnerable. It took a lot of courage to put my creations out there, especially as a self-taught artist.
Starting life all over again after moving to the United States also came with many challenges. I came here with zero setup, but with all the life experiences, values, strength, and resilience I had gained through life. Balancing family, responsibilities, career, and personal dreams was not easy, and there were many moments of self-doubt along the way.
But honestly, even one word of appreciation, encouragement, or kindness from someone would stay with me for a long time and give me the confidence to keep going. Those small moments meant everything to me and slowly helped me believe in myself and my work.
Building Srijan Shachi Art has taught me patience, humility, and resilience. Every struggle and challenge became a lesson, and today I truly believe both success and failure are part of growth and becoming who we are meant to be.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a self-taught contemporary Madhubani artist and the founder of Srijan Shachi Art. My work is inspired by storytelling, emotions, culture, traditions, and the experiences that shape us as human beings. I love blending traditional folk art influences with contemporary expression and creating artwork that feels meaningful and emotionally connected.
I work across acrylics, mixed media, inks, and pen work, and much of my art reflects resilience, spirituality, womanhood, healing, culture, and human connection. For me, art is not just about creating something beautiful to look at — it is about creating a feeling. I truly believe colors are messengers of happiness, and through my work, I hope to bring joy, peace, strength, and positivity into people’s lives.
Over time, Srijan Shachi Art grew from a personal creative journey into something much bigger. Along with original artwork, I also create customized pieces, home décor, and meaningful creative experiences that allow people to connect personally with art.
I feel grateful to have shared my work through exhibitions and platforms in New York, Times Square, Scope Miami, Georgia, and online contemporary art galleries and platforms. One of the most special moments for me was having my artwork “Treasures of India” displayed at the Consulate General of India in Atlanta. I have also had opportunities to participate in community and creative initiatives like TEDx Alpharetta Women 2020 and TEDx Cumming Youth 2025 as a mentor and creative lead, which were incredibly meaningful experiences for me. Supporting causes and organizations like Mend KolabATL and Raksha Inc. through creativity and art has also been very close to my heart.
What sets me apart is probably the fact that my work comes from real emotions, life experiences, and authenticity. I never came from a traditional art background or formal training, so every step of this journey has been built through passion, persistence, self-learning, and simply not giving up. I create from the heart, and I believe people can feel that honesty and emotion when they connect with my work.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising that many people may not know about me is that alongside my artistic journey, I also built a professional background in data and AI technology, which is very different from the creative world people usually associate me with. Most people know me through my art, colors, and creativity, but I have always balanced both analytical and creative sides throughout my journey.
I think that combination of art and technology has shaped who I am. Both worlds require creativity in different ways — one speaks through emotions and visuals, while the other focuses on logic, innovation, and problem-solving. Both have taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of continuously learning and evolving.
Another thing people may not realize is that I am actually a very introverted person. Sharing my art publicly did not come naturally to me at all. It took a lot of courage to step outside my comfort zone and show my work to others. Even today, every piece I create carries a very personal part of me.
I also strongly believe in giving back whenever possible. Supporting causes, helping families in need, contributing through art, or simply spreading kindness is something very close to my heart. I truly believe even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
