Community Highlights: Meet Sheila Smith of Rightsideof50

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Smith.

Hi Sheila, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Many are unaware of the degree of the effect of getting by and making a way. Most young ladies or women aren’t built for college or continuing education right out of high school, I know I wasn’t even after I tried. But then life takes over and situations begin to take place. Where do you turn how do you live? After my attempts and fails, my time on public assistance, my marriages. Doors began to open and encouraging words began to sink in – like case worker telling me many years ago “I don’t ever want to see you in this office again” you hold onto that and build upon that. Many years later, I am in a place to be able to assist other young ladies with what direction they want to go. With knowing that having someone in your corner to listen, to not judge, and to help guide to a better position in life is how Rightsideof50 got started.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Building upon my vision has been a challenge, gaining trust from those in need, and funding is always needed to keep programs going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Coming into my business as an executive assistant who wears many hats HR, payroll, manager. Upon starting my own non-profit and now in a leadership role as founder/president. I truly see the need for young women to have the everyday knowledge of life skills. Rightsideof50 is known for our workshops to teach them just that. From financial, decision making, resume writing, job search, proper attire. We are blessed to have the participation of one of the top Universities here in Atlanta partnering with Rightsideof50 and bringing forth the workshops. If you are in need of any training, please contact [email protected].
