Conversations with the Inspiring Ashlan Riess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlan Riess.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My real story with fashion started when I was accepted into the Fashion Marketing and Business program at SCAD. It was the first time in my life that I was really like “WOW – I’m going to school to help build my passion and grow myself within this industry.” I think it was that moment I fully felt like this Is what I am meant to do with my life. I loved and I mean loved every single aspect of it. It was something that came naturally or me and I found such inspirational and happiness within the creative space.

Fast forward four years and it’s coming down to graduation. It was getting to the point where it was like – this is the real deal. I’m going to get to put all my hard work, passion and creativity out there and really get to do this. After graduation, I worked with multiple companies both in the fashion space and the creative space and that’s I started to define myself and personal style. Even though I was working in the “industry” I dreamed of always being in I still felt that there was a part of me that wasn’t truly diving deep into my passion. So, that’s when I decided to start my own fashion blog. My goal and intentions were to express my style as well as encourage others to do the same. It was an outlet for me to explain my ideas and “style tips” to other women. It not only was a platform for encouragement and confidence through style but it was a way for me to express myself and truly get to be me from every angle.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey with Ashlan Amelia has been an interesting one, to say the least. I wouldn’t say it be smooth and I wouldn’t say it’s been tricky. If anything, it’s been a phenomenal challenge for me to really put my passion forward. Having a background in social media and creative content I spent most of my time building other people’s dreams and passions with my ideas and direction. For once, I had to take a step back, look at myself and ask myself what makes you. you? That little cheerleader inside my head kept saying “it’s your turn girl” and it was an amazing experience. I would say the most challenging part was letting myself be “me”. We live in a world powered by a visual scope and sometimes what’s being put out there is so far from what “real life” is for a person. My biggest fear was that I was going to be putting content out there that wasn’t true or real. I want to be a platform that connects with people from style to everything in between. The power of personality and authenticity is what makes people realize at the end of the day you’re human just like them. I wanted to make that my goal and I feel that strive every day, through every post to be just that. It’s more than a style blog it’s a “feel good, dress better” platform.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Ashlan Amelia – Blog story. Tell us more about the business.
Podcasts are the golden ticket to success and confidence in yourself and your brand, whatever it may be. I’ve made it a point each day to try to listen to one on my commute to work. It’s like a little pep talk and believes me they help tremendously. My go-to podcast series currently is Julie Solomon. She discusses everything from social media, brand development, and my new favorite one “Pitch it Perfect”. Jenna Kutcher is another awesome person to follow and her podcasts make you feel like you can conquer the world. It’s just the little push you need to set yourself up for the next step.

If you’re looking for some words of encouragement to help with your style and everyday confidence then be sure to head over to Ashlan Amelia. I hope you find it a fun way to help you shape your day to day looks.
My passion is sharing my love for fashion and with that comes self-confidence and positivity. That means a place where you discover your own style with a little help.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Never give up on your dreams no matter the size. If you have an idea, passion or hobby give it a try. Don’t put it on the back burner. Make it happen ALWAYS. It may be a long-term goal and it may be a short-term goal but ALWAYS say YES to it. People will see the passion and will feed off that positive energy.
