Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Ratigan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My health and wellness journey truly started after overcoming an eating disorder that spanned high school through my early twenties. This fueled my passion for helping others find peace with their plates and love themselves while navigating a healthy lifestyle, which is why I originally started my blog, Donut Worry Be Healthy. I wanted to make healthy living easy and enjoyable for others, and hopefully help others figure out how to live healthy without having to go through what I did.
But I wanted to do more, so I made the decision to go back to school and get certified as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. Due to my experiences, I have always approached health from a holistic perspective and that is how I coach my clients. This includes not only eating clean and exercising, but having healthy relationships, maintaining a positive perspective, and simply said just being happy. Health is SO much more than eating your greens (although that is important too!).
So now, as a blogger and health coach, I love using my passion, knowledge, and platform to help others by sharing my story, healthy recipes, clean living tips, and more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My road has been anything but smooth. As I mentioned, I struggled with an eating disorder in high school and college. This really consumed most of my early adult life and made it hard for me to really find my path at first.
My advice to other young women would be to be kind, and patient, with yourself. If you don’t know exactly what your calling is that is okay. I went through an unrelated Bachelor’s and Master’s degree before realizing health coaching is what I wanted to spend my life doing. Everything happens when it is supposed to, and you have to have faith that you will end up where you need to be.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Donut Worry, Be Healthy story. Tell us more about the business.
The mission of my blog, Donut Worry Be Healthy is to make a healthy living easily understandable and accessible to everyday people living busy lives who might think it’s impossible. I take a holistic approach to health covering all aspects that help our audience live happier by sharing custom recipes, quality product recommendations, as well as workout and lifestyle tips.
In addition to my blog, I am a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. In my coaching, I work one on one with my clients to help them reach their wellness goals and live the happiest life they can imagine. We cover all areas of their health and programs are custom curated based on each individual’s needs. I am a firm believer that there is no “one diet fits all” and the same goes for exercise. Everyone needs something different and I am here to help you discover what that is for you and help you achieve it.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I think there are still many barriers to female leadership unfortunately, but one that comes to mind first is the lack of flexibility in the workforce. As women, we tend to gravitate towards starting a family at some point in our careers, and the way corporate America works now it is hard for us to have both. I think more flexibility in the work environment would empower and enable a lot more women to be able to have a thriving career without sacrificing their home life.
