Conversations with the Inspiring Oyah Kheperu

Today we would like to introduce you to Oyah Kheperu founder of WellKHEP Fitness & Nutrition.

Oyah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a NASM certified personal trainer, Precision Nutrition: Exercise Nutrition coach & lifelong athlete. From the young age of six, fitness has been a major part of my life! I grew up in Detroit where I was introduced to golf & competitive swimming. These two sports were a major part of my life & eventually evolved into a full-time golf scholarship at Alcorn State University. While in college, I was introduced to strength & conditioning workouts. Although these workouts were intense, I grew to love it! Training at a high intensity daily helped to excel & improve not only my athletic performance but my CONFIDENCE!

After graduating from college with a BS in Biology, I faced the common struggle of not obtaining a career job right away. From there on, I began to lose focus on my goals & my actions/behaviors led me to one of the most life-altering situations. During this time, exercise was one of the greatest stress relievers! I decided that I had had enough of the self-infliction & that I was going to do what it took to succeed & build a life that I have always envisioned. Through my journey of fitness, I discovered a passion to guide others to start, improve & progress through their journey as well!

Fast forwarding to a few years later – 2017, I have built a business around it so I could do it every day.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road in becoming an entrepreneur definitely has not been easy! However, the adversity I have faced/still face during this journey helps mold me. It reveals and discovers truths about the strength and confidence I normally would doubt, allows me to grow not only within my business but as a human being and fuels the drive within me to go even harder to reach my goals.

I would say that the main struggle is having my main source of income be dependent upon others (clients). Life happens and can be unpredictable. People go through financial hardships and most of the time personal training services are cut 1st to accommodate their own budgets. However, this forces me to be proactive with budgeting and mapping out my game plan so I am not myself struggling to tend to my financial obligations.

The advice I would give to other women starting their journey is to believe they are capable! The strongest factor for success is self-esteem; believing you can do it, believing you deserve it and believing it’ll happen for you. As long as you are putting in the effort; God got you!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into WellKHEP Fitness & Nutrition story. Tell us more about the business.
WellKHEP Fitness & Nutrition was created with a vision to educate, motivate, guide, encourage, inspire, & lead by example for each person we work with & has had the same struggles I had. WellKHEP offers personal training: 1-on-1 and Small Groups, Online Training Programs and Nutrition Services: Customized Meal Plans. Helping others helps me stay strong! Our goal is to not make you feel like you need improvement but to offer guidance & advice if you want to make a change. What sets us apart is that our programs will help you not only get the body you want but boost your confidence, & promote your long-term health (mentally, emotionally and socially) all while EDUCATING you so that you are prepared to pursue your fitness goals on your own when you are ready.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
The experiences within my life have always played a major role in setting me up for success. My parents are my role models and biggest supporters. They have instilled a lot of attributes within me and always made sure my siblings and I had the best examples. I remember my siblings and I reciting a devotional each day before school and even though at the time we didn’t understand it, as an adult this remains a true interpretation of the way an individual should go about their life.

“Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your Destiny.”
