Conversations with Jada Lovell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Lovell.

Hi Jada, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been into fashion since I can remember. My mom and aunts were always so fly growing up so they pretty much introduced me to it. As I got older one of my aunts became a celebrity stylist and costume designer. I always thought her job was so cool, she used to bring me to work with her sometimes. I used to get in trouble back in Philadelphia so I decided I wanted to change my life around. My aunt took me under her wing and I was able to learn a lot about wardrobe. I’m so into what I do, I’m very responsible, reliable, and a hard worker. I was trained so well that I made a lot of connections working on set and etc. Hard work never goes unnoticed so a lot of the jobs I get are from word of mouth. I’ve been blessed to be able to work on tv shows, music videos, touring and much more. I love everything about what I do.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly it has not been a smooth road. 9 times out of 10 you’re going to start at the bottom and work your way up. I came in as a PA (production assistant) in wardrobe. A lot of people limit what PAs can do, don’t teach them much about the game, treat them mean, and also try to overwork them at the same time. You will come across some real OGs in the industry that wants you to win and will teach you a lot. Being as though my aunt was the head of most departments that I worked on, I was able to learn a lot more than a usual PA and I was grateful for that. So either people are super nice to me because my aunt is a costume designer or they hate me because they think I get spoiled, lol. Although I was able to work my way to a shopper role which I love. I learned a lot and I have much respect for PAs. Continue to work hard, show people what you bring to the table. Your time will come.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a wardrobe stylist, personal shopper, creative director, etc. My eye for fashion is immaculate. I am a very resourceful person to have on your team. There is nothing that I can’t do. I love shopping and picking out the flyest pieces. I’m known for my style people love the way I dress. What sets me apart from others is that I love being different. I love going for the things nobody has or think is cool, then once I rock it or style it they think it’s cool, lol. Also, I came up in tv & film so I pretty much know every aspect. From breaking down a script, pulling looks, fittings, being on set, returns, continuity, quick changes, etc. I am most proud of everything I’ve done so far. I’m only 24 and I’ve already worked with some heavy hitters which was so much motivation I can only imagine what’s next.

How do you think about happiness?
Honestly shopping makes me happy. I love everything about dope clothes, shoes, and accessories. I could be having a bad day, once I start online shopping my mood automatically brightens up. It doesn’t matter if I have new clothes in my closet you can never have too many clothes. I love looking cute. When you look good, you feel good.
