Today we’d like to introduce you to Onis Hunt.
Hi Onis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
There is so much to share, so much has happened in my life both good and bad that served not only as preparation but also as a catalyst for where I am today. Truthfully, I don’t see myself as some great person standing in any affluent position of success. I am a simple man with a mandate from God to feed His sheep. I take pride in being a husband, pastor, and a working professional. I have experienced great struggles as a child and as an adult, and when I became the pastor of The Great Commission Church Inc., I knew my mission was bigger than the 4 walls of a church building. This passion has ignited our outreach and nonprofit initiatives where we are feeding, clothing, and providing essentials to all of our neighbors in need. The church is a place of hope not just for what is to come but also hope that help and support can be found now. Matthew 25:48 reminds us that what we do for those in need we do unto Christ.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Since opening our church doors in 2021, we have experienced a myriad of emotions and feelings regarding this assignment. We often took for granted that we started our church in the middle of a great crisis in this nation, the pandemic. We struggled greatly to find a place to gather and to get the word out about our ministry and mission. Then, just as we started to gain traction and people were coming, we struggled to keep the lights on and even had to surrender our facility. Yet, in all of those obstacles, we remained faithful and consistent, and the Lord saw us through. We believed that he called us to this assignment and we were committed to seeing it through. We were able to secure a new facility a few months later, and we hit the ground running with an acute focus on our mission to support the needs of the community.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I serve in a dual calling that shapes both my leadership and my impact. On one side, I am the Pastor of The Great Commission Church, Inc., where I focus on building a spiritually healthy, unified, and accountable community. I’m known for teaching with depth, clarity, and structure, helping people understand Scripture in a way that transforms how they live, lead, and love. My pastoral work centers on cultivating strong teams, developing leaders, and creating a culture where people can grow in purpose and identity.
Professionally, I work in Contract Logistics Management, where I specialize in operational excellence, quality management, and process improvement. With a decade of experience in logistics and five years as a Quality Manager, I’ve built a reputation for bringing order, structure, and strategic thinking into complex environments. I’m known for my ability to streamline operations, strengthen compliance, and lead teams toward measurable, sustainable results.
What I’m most proud of is the consistency of my leadership across both worlds. Whether I’m guiding a ministry or managing a logistics operation, I bring the same values: integrity, accountability, unity, and excellence. I’m intentional about creating environments where people can thrive spiritually, professionally, and personally.
What sets me apart is the blend of pastoral insight and operational discipline. I lead with compassion, but I build with structure. I can navigate people and processes with equal strength. That combination allows me to see both the heart of a situation and the system behind it. It helps me develop teams, resolve conflict, elevate performance, and build organizations that are both healthy and effective.
In every space I serve, my goal is the same: to build people, strengthen systems, and leave things better than I found them.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really view my life or business through the lens of luck. I believe more in preparation, stewardship, and God’s timing. When good things have happened, it’s usually been the result of discipline, consistency, and doors that opened because I was ready. When challenges came, they shaped my character and sharpened my leadership. So instead of luck, I’d say my journey has been defined by purpose, growth, and being faithful with every opportunity.
