Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamiah Pittman.
Hi Shamiah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my creative journey through media production while working with UWG Athletics and UWP Productions, where I gained experience producing content, directing shows, and helping bring creative ideas to life behind the scenes. At the time, I wasn’t focused on photography specifically, but I quickly realized how much I enjoyed storytelling and creating visuals that connected with people.
In 2022, I received my first camera as a graduation gift, and that completely shifted things for me. What started as curiosity turned into a real passion for photography and visual storytelling. Over time, I began taking my craft more seriously, building my brand, Visuals By Sham, and focusing on creating heartfelt, high-quality visuals that make people feel seen and confident.
Today, I specialize in portrait and lifestyle photography, while also creating content for brands, events, and creative projects. I’ve continued growing not only as a photographer, but as a business owner and creative director. My goal has always been to create meaningful experiences through visuals while continuing to evolve creatively and professionally.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance the creative side of photography with the business side. Building a brand takes more than just taking good photos — it requires consistency, marketing, networking, time management, and financial investment.
Another challenge was starting with limited equipment and resources. In the beginning, I had to learn how to maximize what I had while continuing to grow my skills and reinvest into my business. There were also moments of self-doubt, especially when trying to find my style and establish myself in such a competitive industry.
On top of that, balancing multiple responsibilities while pursuing photography seriously has been challenging at times. However, every obstacle has pushed me to become more adaptable, disciplined, and intentional about my work. Those experiences have helped shape not only my creative approach, but also the way I connect with clients and run my business today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer and creative director based in the Atlanta area, and I specialize in portrait and lifestyle photography. Through my brand, Visuals By Sham, I focus on creating visuals that feel genuine, intentional, and emotionally connected. I also work on branding content, events, and creative projects that allow people and businesses to visually tell their stories in a meaningful way.
What I’m most proud of is building my business and creative identity from the ground up while continuing to evolve creatively. Photography started as something I explored out of curiosity, but it became a true passion and career path that has allowed me to connect with so many different people and experiences. Seeing clients become more confident through my work and trusting me to capture important moments is something I never take for granted.
I believe what sets me apart is my approach to storytelling and connection. I want people to feel comfortable and seen in front of the camera rather than feeling overly posed or staged. My background in media production and content creation also helps me bring a more creative and intentional perspective to shoots beyond just taking photos. I’m always looking for ways to push myself creatively while still creating an experience that feels authentic to the client.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
One thing I’ve learned throughout this journey is that growth rarely happens overnight. A lot of what people see now came from consistency, learning through mistakes, and continuing to create even during moments of uncertainty. I think it’s important for creatives to understand that you do not have to have everything figured out to start.
I also believe photography is about much more than just taking pictures — it’s about creating an experience and preserving emotions, confidence, and memories in a meaningful way. That perspective is something I try to bring into every project I work on.
Most importantly, I’m grateful for every person who has supported my work, trusted me with their moments, and helped me grow as both a creative and a person. I’m excited to continue evolving, pushing my creativity further, and building something that leaves a lasting impact.
