Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Peebles.
Hi Gloria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began composing poetry during my childhood. One might say it is a divine gift, as it is something that was inherently within me. My favorite childhood book was “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss. I cherished this book for its rhythmic quality. As a teenager, I wrote as a pastime, and in adulthood, I began writing for weddings, funerals, and various events. It remained a hobby until one day, a friend remarked, “Gloria, since you enjoy writing, why not pursue it professionally?” This sparked an epiphany, and here I am.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has not been without its difficulties. The primary obstacles I have encountered include the intense competition within the writing field. There always seems to be someone who writes more proficiently than I do and possesses greater journalistic experience. However, I have come to understand that what is meant for you will find its way to you. Two decades ago, you could not have convinced me that I would be in my current position. My initial aspiration was to become a ghostwriter, earn substantial income, and travel extensively. Although that plan did not materialize as I had hoped, I harbor no regrets. I have had the privilege of meeting remarkable individuals and gaining complimentary access to events due to my media credentials. There are numerous advantages associated with being a writer. Therefore, I express my gratitude for these experiences.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I have several streams of income, and in today’s world, relying on a single source is insufficient. I prefer not to disclose one of my primary income sources, as I believe I would require permission to mention their name. Therefore, I will share my side endeavor, which involves working as a freelance writer and editor for Perception Magazine. Writing is my area of expertise, as it is both my passion and something I excel at. I am recognized for my writing; if you were to mention my name, the first thing people would likely say is that I am a journalist. When asked what I take the most pride in, I find it difficult to provide a specific answer, as I take pride in simply being myself. I do not possess any particular awards or achievements that stand out as my proudest moments because I take pride in everything I do. I am proud of the opportunity to engage in what I love and share it with the world. What distinguishes me from others is my authenticity and my unapologetic nature. At this point in my life, I no longer feel the need to compete with anyone. I have come to understand that waking up each morning is a blessing, as it allows me the chance to improve upon the person I was the day before. In my perspective, I have stepped out of the rat race, and I choose to live each day as if it were my last, for it very well could be my final day on this earth.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me through commissioned writing, editorial collaborations, creative partnerships, workshops, and speaking opportunities. I’m especially interested in projects that value thoughtful storytelling and clear communication. Supporting my work can also look like reading, sharing, subscribing, or recommending my writing to others.
