Daily Inspiration: Meet Jason Christopher Peters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Christopher Peters.

Hi Jason Christopher, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my career in the fashion world in 2001 when I was 18 years old. My pops and grams were the main people in my life who encouraged me to pursue modeling and designing. I was sketching designs as young as four years old and I would cut out photos of models from magazines and walk them around on the floor like a fashion show never knowing that designing was my destiny. Hard work, determination, passion, my heart, body and soul and never giving up has led me to where I am today. My pops always said “work hard now, play later.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
You know in life we deal with challenges no matter if they are career-related or not. Especially in the times we live in today, navigating each day, let alone your entire future can be difficult.

Being a black designer/model definitely has its challenges. I always felt like I had to work ten times harder. I remember also being treated very differently when I started modeling then my friends who were models and it was because of the color of my skin.

No matter what you deal with in life and how many bumpy roads you come across, you must always keep the faith and trust in God that your career path is your destiny.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an activist, designer and model. As a designer, I have always made it my obligation to use my platform to bring awareness to real-life issues that people deal with everyday. Inclusion has always been on the top of my priority list when I began creating and building my brand and career.

My brand consists of clothing and accessories. My new products include hats, durags and bear pins. The signature logo for my brand is the bear. I have created tons of different bears to represent each of us so that everyone feels like they can be part of my brand and unified in a special and beautiful way. My brand is unisex as well.

I am proud of being able to continue to be a designer 21 years strong now. It is truly a blessing. I have had a ton of big achievements throughout my life and am thankful for all of God’s blessings. I am thankful to be able to live my dreams every day of my life.

What sets me apart from others is I am fearless. I let my voice be heard and I stay true to who I am.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a nerd, lol. I wore glasses and all. I was very active though. I played sports including tennis, track, basketball, cross country and baseball. I was also involved in musicals, plays, choir and played the trumpet in the school band. My pops and grams made sure that my brothers and I got to experience everything possible as kids. I always had an outgoing personality but was also a shy kid.
