Today we’d like to introduce you to Talia Stewart.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My artistry began in my hometown of Orange, California, but it wasn’t until I moved to Nashville that I really came into my own sound. When I first came here, I was playing jazz, but over time that evolved into the dark pop sound, I’m known for today. Throughout my journey as an artist, visuals always held more weight to me than other aspects of artistry, and I began directing and producing for other artists as well as myself. Being able to do that has been the biggest blessing, and it’s definitely affected my creation process. It’s fun for me to work backward sometimes: to think of a video and then write a song to that video.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s definitely tough! Somedays, I wake up wishing my passion was dentistry, haha. This industry is hard for lots of reasons, but I think one of the largest is that it’s so unpredictable. There’s no set path you can take to become a successful artist. But success is relative, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
If I had to pick one thing… I guess I’d say I’m most known for my visuals. I’m a very visual person, and oftentimes I’ll see things before I hear them. I’ll be in a session like “that’s gotta sound more indigo” or “can we make that less pointy?” haha. Creating visuals (especially music videos) was something I fell into out of necessity. From the very start, I was adamant about releasing as many music videos as I could. The first one I shot for my single “Throw It My Way” was shot on a $250 budget and all the extras you see were my very hungover friends who I dragged out of bed one Sunday morning.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always looking for people to collaborate with! I love when an artist or creative comes to me with a vision and allows me to run with it. I plan on shooting my first visual collaboration in Atlanta this summer. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time.
