Exploring Life & Business with G.I. Adams of Truly Organics

Today we’d like to introduce you to G.I. Adams.

Hi G.I., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It started in 1993 in Atlanta, GA. I was born and raised in the faith tradition of Christianity. I graduated from DeKalb School of the Arts, earned a BA from Morehouse College, Leadership and Administration from the Business Institute and MDiv from Mercer University.

From a child, I was called. I would minister in the church leading worship, playing instruments, heading the media department, directing the choir, and preaching–Oh! and I so happen to be a PK (Pastor’s Kid). The church was my life. Being in ministry is not as always easy. I learned early that “the call is not convenient.” I saw ministry on all levels, but there seemed to be a struggle with being a young creative in a traditional church. I had to learn to manage my gifts with grace. Trying to be careful not to offend or be “out of order”. I was soon placed in a box and told to be and dress like the older generation of ministers. I would be forced to listen to generations who did not understand why they did things themselves, but that was tradition. Tradition is no all bad, but ignorance of why you are doing something can be ineffective to anyone’s spiritual development.

Throughout my life, there have been good days and some not so much. I have battled with church hurt, suicide, joblessness, depression, grief, and even experienced an explosion burning my face off and creative hand. In fact, I am grateful for life but should not be here. For a while, I felt that our Master Artist left me, that I did not much matter until I shifted my perspective.

Yeah, it is true that The Master Artist will never leave you nor forsake you, but in the midst of trouble — that scripture gets a bit hazy. When I noticed that things were getting too depressing, I started doing the work for myself in becoming emotionally intelligent, began to practice mediation and yoga, started a garden, and remembered that I was enough. Life can sometimes be bitter, yet, with the right perspective and heart posture, it will get better. Over time I grew in wisdom and now my life philosophy is that life is meant living and each moment is an opportunity to show how valuable we are and how valuable others are to us. We should be free to live abundantly like our Master Artist designed for us too. For we are his masterpiece created for good works.

G.I. Adams exists to spread the message of authenticity while impacting lives through Freedom + Faith + Fine Arts.

To create awareness of body, soul, and spirit, encourage balance and enlightenment, and usher in a peaceful and life-changing vibe toward self and communities at large.

I am on my own respective healing journey. Yet, are committed to sharing experiences and encouraging everyone to grow alongside us. Amplifying the voices of mental health, spiritual development, art, and nature.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is not a smooth road and the journey of ministry is not convenient. At times I had a life similar to David and times where I had to be reminded like Timothy to “Let no man despise my youth.” I have worked to build ministries just to be used and abused. I’ve been underestimated and overlooked, betrayed and persecuted, even had to deal with mass humiliation for something I did not do. Exiled from a church because I’m a part of a Fraternity.

I have experienced jealousy on all levels and had to start from the ground up. I’ve had sleepless nights praying, serving, and sowing to help others get a leg up in life while going broke at the same time. I’ve hosted people who scandalized my name and I have battled church hurt.

Smooth and convenient is the last thing that this road has been, but like David my confidence is that through darkness, the Lord is my light and when I’m trapped in anxiety or boxed in with emotions he is my salvation, and I will remain confident that I will see the goodness of the Lord.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Truly Organics?
As a body, we are manifesting a peaceful, kinder, and a creative world where everyone- regardless of faith, race, sexual orientation, economic status, or culture — is granted that same right to healing, balance, and wholeness. We seek to spread peace, love, and light while helping to make self-care and wholeness resources, tools, and practices more accessible.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Do not be afraid. Remember that you are a masterpiece and you deserve to be seen, heard, and adored. Build relationships with people who want to see you succeed, and be wise who you allow into your circle. Do not allow your age, status, orientation, or past failure to stop you from fulfilling the vision over your life.

Be emotionally intelligent and give yourself grace. The Master Artist will guide you with what to say and place the right people in your life once he sees you are ready.

It is good to have mentors and good for you to network, but first you must have a heart posture to receive what will be given to you. Then and only then will you be flowing in abundance.
