Exploring Life & Business with Roger Horner of Horner Homes, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Horner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In my teenage years, I thought I would become a developer – taking raw land and creating communities from scratch. Part of the job would be hiring builders to be a part of this vision coming to life. All through college, I interned for high-profile development firms in Atlanta, with a focus on planning and sales. It wasn’t until I met a builder with his own unique product, John Willis, that I felt something click. John took me under his wing, gave me a job offer, and showed me that there is work to be done at the intersection of ambition and technical skill. This led me down my path of becoming a builder myself, and I now believe there are many characteristics of Horner Homes that are unique and a testament to my own ambitions in the field.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Possibly the greatest challenge was not believing that there was another path for me outside of developing. My work under John Willis was transformative. The lesson I learned and take with me every day is to embrace the possibility of each and every project.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Horner Homes, Inc.?
My company specializes in the construction and development of Luxury residential homes in ta number of flourishing Atlanta communities: Ansley Park, Buckhead, Candler Park, Druid Hills, Inman Park, Lake Claire, Morningside, Old Fourth Ward, and Virginia Highlands. We have a distinct pallet of finishes and go-to materials, and a special Horner Homes touch that attracts our many wonderful clients.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The people I’ve been lucky enough to meet along my professional journey (John Willis, for example) have completely changed the trajectory of my life. I don’t believe that I would have worked my way up to building such incredible homes without the help of equally incredible individuals. Oh, and of course finding the best bud and sidekick, Henry (my dog). I couldn’t do it without his help!
