From Military Life to Entrepreneurial Success: The Journey of Vanessa aka Goat Marie

Vanessa is a testament to the power of entrepreneurial spirit and the dedication required to juggle multiple roles with grace. Her remarkable journey began in December 2018, when she enlisted in the military, a chapter she will officially close this October. But her story is far more than a transition from military service to civilian life.

Before the pandemic reshaped the world, Vanessa and her husband, Vance, envisioned a future where they could spend more time with their growing family, then consisting of five children. Determined to create this reality, they launched Team VandV LLC, specializing in backyard movie nights. Their business offered clients a unique experience with massive inflatable screens, plush seating, cozy beds, fire pits for s’mores, and even hookahs, turning ordinary backyards into unforgettable entertainment venues.

The pandemic presented unforeseen challenges, particularly for Vanessa’s personal passion—nail care. Unable to visit salons, she turned to YouTube and taught herself nail artistry. This self-taught skill soon led to the creation of her own LLC dedicated to her newfound craft. Her dedication and talent were rewarded when Vance surprised her with this business venture for Christmas.

More recently, Vanessa founded The Godpreneur, an apparel and accessory brand designed to express faith and devotion to God. We have apparel designed for couples to coordinate, for the whole family to match, or just for you to stand out solo whether male or female, young or seasoned. The Godpreneur’s website will soon feature a new line of press-on nails collaborating with her nail brand Goat Marie, Recently, Vanessa founded The Godpreneur, an apparel and accessory brand inspired by divine guidance and the shared entrepreneurial journey with her ‘God Sister friends’—her BFF and GFF (God Friend Forever). As they embarked on their entrepreneurial journeys together, they found strength in GOD, their faith, their bond, and their families. The Godpreneur was inspired by this collective support and spiritual devotion. The brand will have an upcoming collection of press-on nails from Goat Marie, that will offer a stylish, versatile option for those who appreciate both convenience and elegance in their nail care.

Throughout her entrepreneurial endeavors, Vanessa remains deeply committed to her family. She is a devoted wife to Vance and a proud mother of their six children: Vance Jr., Vancēno, Vancēano, Vancēyon, Vaniylah, and Vaniyah. Her family also includes Dior, a Goldendoodle and service dog, who adds joy and support to their lives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had to step back and place my trust in God while rebuilding my clientele after relocating from NY to GA. Transitioning from being fully booked six days a week to experiencing a significant slowdown was challenging. Balancing a new baby, a new home, military career and a new business venture felt overwhelming at times. Despite numerous moments of wanting to give up, I persevered thanks to the grace of God and the unwavering support of my incredible husband, family, and friends.
