Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Constantin.
Hi Amy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career background includes a little bit of all things marketing – social media, copywriting, digital marketing and PR. My husband (a successful entrepreneur himself) brought us on a few adventures across the country in our early married years as he grew multiple businesses of his own. When we became pregnant with our first child in 2016, I was unsure how motherhood would fit into my career and transform my life. Our oldest daughter was born in March 2017, after which we quickly moved again. When I found myself in a new city where I knew no one–and with a newborn–I frantically looked for a place where I could meet other moms in my same stage of life. I was browsing the MeetUp app (is that still a thing?) for activities where we lived in Louisville, KY, and found a workout class called “FIT4MOM.” They met at a local park in the mornings at 10am, and the listing said you could bring your kids, so I showed up one October morning. The instructor welcomed me into the circle and said, “hey mama! Want to join us?” That moment completely changed the trajectory of my motherhood journey.
Fast forward five years, and I’m the owner of FIT4MOM Roswell Alpharetta Perimeter here in north Atlanta. FIT4MOM is a national franchise, and I am one “boss mom” of 250 in the country who are bringing community, support and strength in motherhood to moms in their local communities. I’m 2.5 years into ownership, and the purpose I’ve found within this business and “job” is truly amazing. We offer 20+ classes per week at 4 different class locations throughout the Atlanta suburbs. With over 100 active members and a community of almost 500, we are so proud to be able to support moms in whatever stage of motherhood in which they currently find themselves. I lead a team of 12 instructors–with the help of 3 awesome staff members–and enable them to find purpose and fulfillment in a “job” where they can lead a group of other moms in a workout while not needing any form of childcare. FIT4MOM fills a need in our community. It helps moms connect with other moms in the same stage of life–especially the most isolating ones–and provides them with community, activities, workouts and purpose. I’ve made some of my best friends through FIT4MOM, as have my daughters. I just recently had my third baby girl, and I can’t quite imagine our lives without FIT4MOM. My girls beg me to take them to Stroller Strides (our core class offering), and even when I feel more like sitting on the couch, they motivate me to get going. In turn, they watch me prioritizing my health and fitness. It’s truly priceless. I’m so happy with how FIT4MOM has integrated into my motherhood journey, career and life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think working mom life can ever be a “smooth road” to be truthful! It is incredibly challenging – I won’t sugarcoat it. Business-wise, I purchased our FIT4MOM franchise from the previous owner in August 2020. We were in the peak of COVID terror and all our classes were being taught via Zoom. If you have a toddler…you know that Zoom and toddlers don’t mix. We made the best of it, but looking ahead at fitness classes in a pandemic reality was a daunting task. Would moms be comfortable? Would we wear masks? Could we ever get membership numbers back up to where they peaked in Fall 2019?
It was tough. We pushed through and constantly evolved our class offerings, workout locations, procedures and protocols. Today in October 2022, we have grown back to our pre-pandemic size. It took a lot of dedicated work and effort on behalf of our entire FIT4MOM team to make moms feel comfortable and to continuously demonstrate the huge value we can offer in the lives of local moms. Turns out that we were uniquely positioned to succeed in a pandemic environment: we offer outdoor workout classes that are easily made socially distant, and we have no fixed class location so we can always be moving classes around, so we are extremely flexible. Our veteran mamas continued to find value in the connection with other moms, and we spread our network out even further during the COVID years. We’re so excited to be moving forward in a new reality–and continuing to grow!
Personally, it was a challenge for me, too. Finding time and space to work on my FIT4MOM business with three young children in tow will never be easy. I’ll be the first to admit that I have a lot of help. I have two sets of parents within a close driving distance, a trusted babysitter, a supportive husband, and a flexible schedule. I love that my girls know that I’m “the boss of FIT4MOM” but that they also know I’ll be at all of their school events and ready at the drop of a hat to stay home with them if they’re sick. FIT4MOM enables me to have an incredible “work life balance” and I’m so grateful for that.
As you know, we’re big fans of FIT4MOM Roswell Alpharetta Perimeter. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
FIT4MOM is the nation’s leading prenatal and postnatal fitness program, providing fitness classes and a network of moms to support every stage of motherhood. From pregnancy through postpartum and beyond, our fitness and wellness programs help make moms strong in body, mind, and spirit.
Here in Atlanta, FIT4MOM Roswell Alpharetta Perimeter offers a wide variety of stroller fitness classes–as far south as Dunwoody to as far north as Forsyth. Stroller fitness classes allow moms to get an hour-long workout with your kids in tow in the stroller next to you. No childcare required! The kids are entertained and kept busy with songs and games while the mom gets a great workout. You in turn instill the importance of health, fitness and self-care in your kids–just simply through osmosis and observation! Then after classes, we offer crafts, playdates, kid’s music classes, educational sessions…COMMUNITY! We call it “Our Village.” Do you know the saying that parenthood “takes a Village?” Well, we provide it for our community. We’re all moms and we can guarantee that if you have a problem, one of us has been through it before. The camaraderie and support is truly unmatched.
We also offer kid-free workout classes–but still within the mom community–once you age out of stroller classes or even if you just need a tougher workout and a break from the kids! Our offerings can stretch with a mom throughout all stages of motherhood. I’m so proud of every facet of our business, but when I attend a class and meet a first-time mom who just barely got out of the house that morning, that’s when I’m reminded how powerful FIT4MOM is. I hear every day… “I love my baby, but it’s so isolating to be at home with her. I need to meet other moms but I don’t know how. I can barely get out the door…is it OK if I’m late to class?” And our answer is always a resounding YES. First of all, there’s no such thing as being late to a FIT4MOM class, we’re just glad you’re there. And we are there are ready to support that first-time mom who’s overwhelmed and doesn’t know how to get out. We form the ultimate support group for her–and we’ve done it so many times with thousands of moms before her!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I used to be incredibly type A–a planner, obsessively ambitious and ALWAYS striving to find that next step up in my career, in my personal life, etc. Amy coming out of college was ready to tackle the marketing/public relations world and work my way up to a fancy top-tier executive job at a big agency. So when the pull of motherhood hit me, and I found myself (surprisingly?) fairly content to be home with my baby at all hours of the day, I didn’t know how that new facet of my personality would fit within the former me.
I’m 5 ½ years into motherhood now, and honestly, I’ve completely changed. In so many ways, motherhood has made me into a better person–albeit a much different one. I wouldn’t consider myself Type A anymore at all. Take one look at my kitchen, and you’ll realize that. Ha! I’ve learned to prioritize what really matters, which isn’t the work happy hours or the big promotion, but instead the values I get to instill in my daughters day in and day out. It’s not glamorous or high-profile by any means. Every day, I pull a pair of black leggings and usually a black t-shirt out of my drawer and engage the mom bun. My priorities have changed! I’m more relaxed in so many ways and more human, too. I love relating to other moms and helping reassure them that those moms you see on Instagram… they aren’t real. But we are. My FIT4MOM community is an amazing mix of moms who are just DOING the darn thing and who are growing the next generation of amazing little humans who are going to take over the world. I’m so proud of the person I’ve become in motherhood–who’s maybe a tad less ambitious–but who invests in others and teaches my daughters what a privilege it is to be a woman and a mom in our world today.
