Hi Barbara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I came from a humble beginning where education was respected and valued but not achieved by my parents. As a child, I had to find my path and walk it with pride, limited resources, a big heart, and a strong desire to learn. I stand today as a retired educator with an earned doctorate, author of 9 books, owner of Amyra Educational Consultancy, and a member of a speaker’s bureau. 

In addition, I am here today, thanks to God’s grace and my innate abilities. Also, as a child, I was inspired by successful people around me and driven to achieve success through my passion for teaching and learning. Education is where I found my calling, and I have spent a lifetime learning and sharing my knowledge with others. My goal is to make a positive impact on those around me, and I believe that my gift to the world is my wisdom, which I am always happy to share. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life hasn’t been smooth for me. As Langston Hughes wrote in his poem “Mother to Son,” “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” These words sum up the struggles I have faced to reach where I am today. I have heard “no” more times than “yes.” I have been overlooked for awards, honors, and promotions, yet I never gave up and kept moving forward, knowing that what God had for me would come to me like a mighty wind. Whenever I was close to giving up, something impossible happened, and doors opened. For instance, writing my ninth book had me on the verge of giving up many times. I had problems with the flow, setting, storylines, and an over-complicated plot. I was out of my comfort zone. I was used to writing nonfiction, and fiction writing tested my endurance to finish the project. The finished manuscript has me feeling that I am satisfied with the title. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is slowly getting back to full capacity since Covid 19; However, I am working hard to keep it going strong. I usually work a 60-hour workweek due to my passion for what I do, which drives me to go above and beyond to achieve the perfection I seek. My company specializes in inspirational writing, motivational speaking, mentoring, tutoring, and coaching for educators in need. We are known for the inspirational messages we leave with our clients to help them be better and do better. We create a caring environment even before we begin working with those who seek us out. We are proud of the fact that we live up to our name, Amyra, which means leader or commander. Once trained, we believe that leading is a gift that keeps on giving, branching out in all directions. I want readers to know that we are true to our word, and we deliver what we promise: experience, expertise, and exquisite services that we transfer to thirsty clients. 

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?

It’s fantastic to be who I am and to have achieved my level of success. Living a purposeful life is not just a choice but a necessity that gives me a reason to wake up daily. The fuel keeps me going, even when my goals seem unattainable. However, amidst this pursuit, I’ve also found a certain level of success, peace, and overall well-being. Without a clear purpose, life could quickly feel aimless, leading to a lack of motivation. That’s why I must live a life filled with meaning, direction, focus, and hope. And above all, my life’s purpose has been to create a meaningful place in the world for my family and Amyra. My innate abilities, calling, and purpose have made room for me in writing, speaking, coaching, mentoring, and tutoring. I only ask you to taste and see!
