Hi Ben and Caroline Cartoon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ben: Starting IMERSE (pronounced the same as “immerse”) was one of the most meaningful decisions Caroline and I have ever made, and honestly, we couldn’t be more grateful for the journey. We had a shared vision of building something where we could truly serve people, not just deliver a service. We wanted to sit across the table from our clients, understand their goals, their fears, and their dreams, and help them turn their visions into plans, with support through the uncertainties along the way.

There’s something incredibly fulfilling about forging those real relationships. Knowing that when a client calls, they’re not just a file number, they’re someone we genuinely care about. That’s what drives us every single day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ben: Smooth? We have to laugh at that a little. Building something real never is. When we launched IMERSE, we made the decision to acquire an existing book of business, which meant taking on significant financial risk right out of the gate. We were all in from day one.

The seasonality of this industry is real. Revenue doesn’t come in evenly, and in these first months of building the firm, there were stretches where we were bridging gaps out of our own savings. That kind of pressure tests you. But we never wavered in what we were building, and that conviction carried us through.

Caroline: What made it even more demanding is that we were doing all of this while raising a baby. Our daughter Amelia just turned 16 months old, and this past busy season we were both logging 75+ hour weeks while being parents to a baby at home. There were late nights, early mornings, and more than a few moments where we looked at each other exhausted and just said “we’ve got this.” Because we did. Because we do.

Doing this alongside Ben makes all the difference. The hard seasons are hard, but we are in it together as business partners, as spouses, and as parents. That combination of shared purpose and shared sacrifice is something we don’t take lightly. We wouldn’t trade it for anything.

We’ve been impressed with IMERSE Advisory, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

A mentor and chess coach once told me, ‘You must want to win more than you fear losing.’ In chess, I learned quickly that the best outcomes come when I’m making bold moves, not staying passive. That mindset continues to shape how we approach each day at IMERSE.
