Hidden Gems: Meet LaToya Murray-Johnson of Doula View LLC and The Birth Impact LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaToya Murray-Johnson.

Hi LaToya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a fascination for birth and the reproductive process for women. I used to study it as a teenager. As God would have it, I began supporting my family and friends as the “pregnancy 411” person. During a Lamaze Childbirth class I found out what a doula was and knew without a shadow of a doubt it was my calling. That was in 2009, and the rest is history!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anything worth its weight comes smoothly. It may come naturally to you but not smoothly (all the time). I started my business at the same time that I took a leap of faith to homeschool. I’ve had to learn the trade, find out how to run a business and learn how to balance life. Once you are established then you navigate your convictions, and you individualize who you are and what you stand for in the field you are in. Sometimes that doesn’t mesh with competitors or current culture. It also took time to build a confidence and become comfortable in your space. Navigating supporting through losses and trauma. All of this require seasonal growth. Not to mention, doubts and family, finances and just life! lol

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Doula View LLC is my private doula business. Through this business I provide birth and postpartum doula services to the Atlanta and Metro Atlanta areas. This is physical, emotional and informational support before during and just after birth. This includes childbirth education. I am a one stop shop. I also assist my clients in finding a provider that best suits their philosophies about birth (Kinda of like a real estate agent for birth. lol)

The Birth Impact LLC is my international doula training and certification program and networking organization. Where doulas come for support, continued education and or birth doula certification.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I was created with a purpose, a God-given gift for the world. There is no blueprint for it… but if I truly believe that as I walk this journey of life and value and appreciate what has been freely given to me. I will continue to grow confidently in my purpose and complete the impact I was meant to make on this world.
