Today we’d like to introduce you to Kianna Johnson.
Hi Kianna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kianna Johnson. Born and raised in Atlanta. I started Kianna’s Cleaning Co as a part-time gig. Walmart was my life. I started as a sales associate in 2012 and worked my way up the ladder. I was a supervisor by 2016. I wanted to continue climbing the ladder and enrolled in school. I started school in 2017 to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources. My goal was to become HR for Walmart.
However, my goals shifted. Something didn’t feel right. I knew I wasn’t put on this earth to continue to make someone else rich. I knew my purpose was to leave a legacy behind. I just didn’t know how to do it yet or where to start. I will never forget how I started my journey. Tragedy hit one of my favorite family members. She payed me to clean her house two days out of the week. I needed extra money so I cleaned while I worked a full-time job. That 1 cleaning job turned into another cleaning job. I asked my brother to help me create a flyer. I sent the flyer to my family members first (yes, I was scared to go public) and one of my uncles replied. I didn’t know at the time what I was getting myself into but I did it anyway. I serviced a well-known MUA Andrew she told me I had until the end of the day to have an Instagram page for my business and the rest was history. I didn’t think I would’ve quit my full-time job to become an entrepreneur. But I did. I wouldn’t change anything about it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not having any guidance was the biggest obstacle for me. I didn’t know anything about being an entrepreneur. Let alone running my own business. Networking opened so many doors that a degree couldn’t. It’s not about what you know, it’s about who you know.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My work speaks volumes. I’m very detailed oriented. Making my clients happy to come home to a clean environment does something to me. It kinda brings tears to my eyes!
How do you think about luck?
God places amazing people behind you. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today if it wasn’t for Him, my family, and supporters. My biggest motto is “strangers will support you more than your closest friends”. We have Sunday dinner at my grandma’s house and those wonderful people supported me since day 1. My friends that I don’t talk to daily are the ones that support. People that I don’t know who follow my journey support me. I don’t call that “luck” those are blessings!
