Hi Ortavia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey has been one of faith, resilience, and purpose. I started as a woman with a passion for healing—both physically and emotionally. This passion led me to become a Licensed Massage Therapist, where I discovered the profound impact of touch on the body and soul. That calling inspired me to establish HAZE (Healing and Zen Experience), a space dedicated to relaxation, rejuvenation, and muscle therapy.
But my work didn’t stop there. Understanding the deeper struggles people face, I founded VOTUS (Voice of the Un-Spoken), a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals and families break the cycle of abuse and find healing. My heart for service and leadership also led me to create social groups like S.W.E.(Sistas who eat) and collaborated with a group to form Unity Impact, spaces where community, sisterhood, and outreach come together to uplift others.
Through every step, I’ve leaned on my faith, trusting that God placed me on this path for a reason. My journey has had its challenges, but every obstacle has been a stepping stone toward growth. Now, as an award-winning entrepreneur, minister, and leader, I continue to walk in my purpose—helping people heal, feel empowered, and live beyond their past.
And this is just the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into the woman I am today.
One of the biggest struggles was starting from the ground up—building HAZE, VOTUS, and my other ventures with nothing but faith, determination, and a vision. There were financial hurdles, moments of doubt, and times when I had to push through exhaustion just to keep things moving.
Another challenge was navigating personal hardships while still showing up for others. As someone who helps people heal, I’ve had to learn how to refill my own cup so I don’t pour from an empty one. Finding balance between my purpose, my businesses, and my personal well-being has been a journey in itself.
And of course, breaking barriers in industries that often overlook the importance of holistic healing and emotional wellness wasn’t easy. Educating people on the power of touch therapy, advocating for survivors of abuse, and leading with integrity in all aspects of my work required resilience.
But through it all, my faith has kept me grounded. Every setback was a setup for something greater, and every struggle reinforced my purpose. Today, I stand stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever to continue making an impact.

HAZE, which stands for Healing and Zen Experience, is more than just a massage business—it’s a sanctuary for relaxation, rejuvenation, and true muscle therapy. Established in 2021 and based in McDonough, GA, HAZE is known for its deep commitment to wellness and healing through expert bodywork. We specialize in muscle manipulation, helping clients not just feel better in the moment but experience lasting relief from tension, stress, and chronic pain.
What sets HAZE apart is our holistic approach. We don’t just provide massages; we create an experience that nurtures both the body and mind. From the moment clients walk through our doors, they enter a space designed for peace and healing, with our signature purple branding reflecting a regal, calming atmosphere. One of the things we’re most proud of is our dedication to excellence, which was recognized when we won Best of Georgia 2024 for massage therapy. We also take pride in staying ahead of industry trends, integrating digital systems like MassageBook and digital intake forms to streamline client experiences and ensure the highest level of professionalism.
Beyond individual services, HAZE stands for something greater. It was inspired by and dedicated to my late great grandfather , and our mission extends into advocacy and support for those in need of healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
McDonough, GA, has a charming small-town feel with a growing community vibe, which makes it a great place for both businesses and families. I love how it balances historic charm with modern development, especially the town square, local events, and community-driven businesses like HAZE. The strong sense of community and support for small businesses is definitely a highlight.
On the downside, like many growing areas, traffic congestion can be a bit of an issue, especially around Highway 155 and I-75. Also, as the city grows, maintaining that small-town charm while accommodating expansion is always a challenge. But overall, it’s a great place with a lot of potential!
