Today we’d like to introduce you to Solomon E. Stretch.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My professional journey is fundamentally a story of returning to Self and finding authenticity.
I was raised in a household that strongly valued education and military service, a path that felt important for me as a young Black male. However, that drive quickly became intertwined with a personal pressure to prove my worth and earn the approval of others. I defined my success and my value through external achievements—degrees, professional titles, status, and material possessions. I can now clearly acknowledge that this pursuit was based on achievement rather than inner fulfillment.
This trajectory led me through my undergraduate studies, where I eventually earned a dual degree in Psychology and Sociology, despite a challenging start. These credentials and connections opened doors to demanding roles, culminating in titles like Clinical Director and Executive Director. I am deeply grateful for the experiences gained in those roles, but I realized that despite all the accomplishments, I still hadn’t achieved one critical thing: authenticity.
My turning point came with a simple yet profound decision to pivot and pursue something completely different, which led me to manage a gym for a year. During that time, I met a yoga guru who introduced me to practices of stillness, balance, and inner truth. Initially, I resisted this part of the journey because I wasn’t ready to confront the fact that I was genuinely unhappy. I had constructed what looked like “a good life” but was missing joy—my life had become unnecessarily complicated.
I stand where I am today because of a series of intentional “yeses”—saying yes to choices that made sense only to me, not to anyone else. In October 2025, I established my private practice, SESTRETCH Counseling. Our work is centered on the concept of “coming back home” to oneself and making soul-aligned decisions. At SESTRETCH Counseling, we believe therapy moves beyond simply solving problems; it is a journey of self-reclamation. We guide individuals to align with their deepest truths, reconnect with their bodies, and transition from a mode of survival into one of sustainable self-mastery. I use “we” because I actively seek to collaborate with like-minded providers—therapists, counselors, coaches, and case managers—who share this commitment to genuine human connection.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest obstacles I faced was internal: the struggle to truly believe in myself and step out from behind the curtain. For years, I had found comfort operating in supportive roles, often behind the scenes or working for someone else. The idea of stepping into the spotlight—of being visible—felt genuinely scary.
Launching SESTRETCH Counseling required me to directly confront those self-limiting beliefs, particularly the internal narrative that “what I had to offer wasn’t unique” or “everyone else is already saying this.” I wrestled with the fear of failure and the worry that there simply wouldn’t be room for me in the market.
However, in confronting those fears, I realized I was experiencing a profound sense of cognitive dissonance. How could I, after fifteen years of encouraging clients to live their biggest, most authentic lives, continue to hold myself back? The realization that I needed to “walk the talk” and embody the principles I taught was the ultimate catalyst for overcoming that challenge and building SESTRETCH Counseling.
We’ve been impressed with SESTRETCH Counseling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Practice of Returning to Self.
We believe therapy isn’t just about solving problems — it’s about coming home to yourself. We help individuals align with their deepest truths, reconnect with their bodies, and move from survival mode into sustainable self-mastery.
Rooted in ethical excellence, clinical compassion, and embodied truth-telling, SESTRETCH Counseling was created for those who are ready to stop negotiating with dysfunction — and start living in alignment.
We are a values-led behavioral health practice rooted in truth, love, and compassion—three anchors that shape every client interaction and clinical decision.
Here’s what we offer:
1. A Whole-Person, Truth-Centered Approach
Our people don’t just learn how to cope—they learn how to come home to themselves through identity exploration, emotional clarity, and honest self-inquiry.
2. Trauma-Responsive, Shame-Free Care
No judgment. No pathologizing. No “cookie-cutter” interventions. Our people get a safe space to unpack trauma, patterns, and conditioning—without fear of being misunderstood or minimized.
3. Specialized Expertise in Co-Occurring Disorders
Where other practices struggle, SESTRETCH thrives. You bring the complexity—anxiety, trauma, identity, substance use—and we bring a clinical blueprint that integrates all of it with precision.
4. Compassion Meets Accountability
This isn’t passive therapy. Our people get support and strategy. Empathy and structure. We hold space while pushing for sustainable, forward-moving change.
5. Cultural Intelligence + Lived Awareness
Anyone—especially Black professionals, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those navigating identity-based stress—experience care that understands context, not just symptoms.
6. Integrated Mind–Body–Story Work
We blend modern psychology with grounding practices, narrative reframing, values-based living, and mindful somatic awareness—creating clarity, peace, and purpose-driven progress. We honor the wisdom of the body as part of the healing process. This isn’t just talk therapy — it’s a full-bodied return to presence, regulation, and instinctual trust.
We help people:
Get out of problems and into solutions
Reconnect with their bodies and instincts
Set boundaries as an act of self-respect
Tell the truth — even when it’s uncomfortable
Develop habits that reinforce peace, not chaos
You’ll never be pathologized here. We understand the intersection of trauma, culture, identity, and healing — and we honor every part of your experience.
Our Commitment
We are committed to helping people:
Feel seen — not just assessed
Feel empowered — not just educated
Feel safe — not just “treated”
Because healing doesn’t happen in performance. It happens in presence.
Let’s stretch beyond survival, into something sacred.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I believe Issa Rae articulated this perfectly when she discussed how we often look up for mentors and networking opportunities. Instead, we should be looking across or next to us to identify potential collaborators. I have had the pleasure of working with, and learning from, many amazing individuals who are making significant contributions in their fields.
