Life and Work with Monet Bearden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monet Bearden.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Monet. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started at the young age of 15 in Detroit, Michigan… I began as an assistant by the time I was 17 years of age, I went full force as a stylist. I created a name for my self by doing natural hair weaves, etc. Then, I moved to Atlanta and noticed they didn’t have a walk-in salon. Everyone was appointment-based, so I decided to change the game. I built a name for my self doing Detroit styles like ponytails something different than I opened my salon. And catering to the last-minute clients, they needed to walk in and get slain! Genius, it was a success. The number of walk-ins grew and I was able to also cater to stylist that was building their clientele. So now, I have a full salon of 17 employees and a hair store. I believe in my team and they believe in Travelinshears.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! I have had hard times. It’s already a challenge in dealing with people every day. However, when you overcome the small things, you learn a little more!

Please tell us about Travelinshears.
Travelinshears hair Bar is Atlanta’s number one walk-in salon and we are home of ponytails! However, we are the well-rounded stylist that specializes in natural hair car frontals and we went viral on our micro links!

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
The opportunities are endless, focus on yourself, everything else will come! I know many think it’s impossible to have your dream business, your spouse and children… I have all three and it’s not easy but it makes everything worth it, we are superwomen for a reason!
