Life & Work with Anitia Brown of Jonesboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anitia Brown.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Whew, where do I begin?

I’m a proud mother of three beautiful daughters — Jahmia (20), Amiya (17), and Jada (14) — and a YAYA (aka the flyest grandma out here) to my identical twin grandsons, Yah’kai and Zah’kai. They are the light of my life and a big part of why I do what I do. But if we’re being real — like raw, soul-baring real — the turning point in my life didn’t come from joy. It came from pain.

Back in 2014, I lost my brother Brian. He had been living as a quadriplegic since 2004, when he was shot in the neck. He survived for ten years, but the complications eventually took him from us. That loss broke something open in me. I spiraled into a season of deep isolation — but it was in that darkness that I found my light. I wasn’t just grieving my brother, I was grieving parts of myself I had never even met. But in the quiet… I finally heard me. Not the noise of the world, not the expectations, not the trauma loops. Just me.

I’ve always been the one who thinks differently — a natural question-asker, a dot-connector. My curiosity and intuition have always been louder than the programming. So while I was encouraging my daughters to start creating content like all the other kids were doing at the time, they were like “Mom, nah.” I kept nudging them until one day, I clearly heard Spirit say, “I didn’t give the assignment to them — I gave it to you.”

So I did it. Nervously, awkwardly, but I did it. I posted my first TikTok video titled “We’ve Been Celebrating the New Year All Wrong” — and just like that, it blew up. I went viral and gained over 10,000 followers almost overnight. That was the beginning of everything.

From there, I leaned into what I really came here to say. I started teaching on self-love, deconstructing religion, dismantling patriarchal systems, decoding symbolism in pop culture, movies, music — all the juicy, soul-expanding stuff. But you know the system don’t like truth-tellers. Because I speak on topics that rattle cages and shake tables, my content started getting flagged. Eventually, my first page was banned at 41K followers.

I almost gave up. I was tired. But Spirit whispered again: “Do it again. This time, it’ll be bigger, better, and even more impactful.”

And baby, was it ever. I rebuilt. Platform by platform — TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and now YouTube. Today, I reach millions monthly with my voice, my story, my frequency.

In September 2024, I went even deeper. I sat with Ayahuasca — known as “The Vine of the Soul.” That journey cracked me all the way open. It showed me the next phase of my mission, which led to the birth of my business Y.O.U. Botanica, which stands for Your Own Universe.

Y.O.U. Botanica isn’t just a store — it’s a movement. We offer spiritual tools, consultations, eBooks, classes (on Hoodoo, self-love, etymology, ancestral work, and more), herbs, Cosmic Treats, and events like Yaya’s Soul Jam Sessions — an Atlanta-based experience filled with music, deep thought, love, laughter, and liberation.

This isn’t about selling products. This is about helping people return home to themselves. My goal is to build a community — a real tribe — where we unlearn, remember, and reprogram. Where we question everything and honor what’s real.

We didn’t come here to just pay bills and die. We came here to learn, to experience, to love, to explore. My platform is just a mirror — a reminder that you are your own universe… and the power has always been within you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. This journey has been beautiful, yes — but it’s also been bumpy, messy, and straight-up uncomfortable at times. I’ve experienced deep love, community, and support… but with that also came hate, misunderstandings, and people projecting their own fears onto me. I’ve lost friendships. Relationships. Business partnerships. People I thought were solid turned out to be seasonal. And that hurt — but I eventually realized every exit was divine. It was all a part of my path and purpose.

Building this brand, this movement, this business — it hasn’t been all wins and praise. I’ve had amazing months where I was like “Okay Spirit, I see you!” and then I’ve had quiet months that tested my faith, my patience, and my nervous system. But here’s the thing: I don’t call them losses. I call them lessons. Every so-called setback just pushed me closer to alignment.

Nobody said the road would be easy. But I’m built for this. I’m the type to turn betrayal into boundaries, chaos into clarity, and lemons….LOL I turn them into lemonade, a cosmic cookie, and a whole healing session.

This isn’t just a hustle — this is my assignment. And that’s what keeps me going.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a spiritual educator, intuitive guide, speaker, creator, and founder of Y.O.U. Botanica — which stands for Your Own Universe. But more than that, I’m a blueprint disruptor. I help people unlearn the noise, remember who they are, and walk in the truth of their own divinity.

My work is rooted in truth, love, and remembrance. I specialize in deconstructing old systems — religious programming, patriarchal conditioning, colonial mindsets — and bringing people back to their power through knowledge, ancestral wisdom, shadow work, and self-love. I also teach and practice Hoodoo, decoding symbolism in everything from pop culture to ancient texts, and I show folks how to reclaim their energy in a world that constantly tries to siphon it.

What sets me apart is that I’m not selling fantasy — I’m helping people remember reality — the real reality. The one beneath the programming. I keep it raw, relatable, and rooted. I don’t speak above people’s heads; I speak straight to their spirit. And I don’t just talk about this life — I live it. I’ve walked through the shadow, I’ve faced my own ego, and I’ve done the deep work — and I continue to do it. That’s what makes this real.

What I’m most proud of? The messages I get from people saying, “You helped me see myself.” That’s everything. I don’t take that lightly. I’m here to wake people up — not with fear, but with love and accountability. I remind people that healing ain’t always pretty, but it’s powerful.

And this work? This mission? It’s bigger than me. It’s ancestral. It’s spiritual. It’s soul work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really believe in luck the way most people do. I believe in alignment. I believe in timing. I believe in karma. And I believe in spiritual contracts that your soul signed before you even touched this realm.

That being said, some people would look at my journey and call it bad luck — losing my brother, having platforms taken down, relationships fall apart, betrayal in business — but me? I see it as redirection. Divine setup. Spirit clearing the path.

And when things have aligned beautifully — like going viral “by accident,” finding my tribe online, or manifesting abundance right when I needed it — people might say that’s good luck. But again, I know it was purpose meeting preparation. That was Spirit moving on my behalf because I stayed the course, even when it didn’t make sense.

So nah, I don’t chalk things up to luck. I chalk it up to being obedient, staying grounded, trusting the unseen, and knowing that my steps are ordered — even when the path is rough. Some days are magic. Some days are mess. But it’s all medicine in my eyes.
