Life & Work with Brooke Envall & Tia Broxton Tbtalkback of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Envall & Tia Broxton Tbtalkback

Hi Brooke Envall & Tia Broxton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our story began freshman year of college, with both of us stepping into the major music scene in Atlanta with little to no music insights other than performing. Little did we know, the initial awkwardness would lead to a friendship that would span over the next four years. As seniors now, it’s hard to believe how far we’ve come.

We’ve had the incredible opportunity to perform with some of the biggest names in music—Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Emmet Cahill, the King’s Singers, and more. We traveled to Turkey for the World Symposium of Choral Music. We’ve been crucial leadership for our school’s distribution and sync label (being the only school in the U.S. with a working sync company). We have also found ourselves managing artists and creating original songs for not just ourselves, but industry professionals as well.

While singing in ensembles, we’ve also performed together at countless events as a duo. Over the years, our harmonies and connection grew so natural that we realized we had something special to share with the world. Performing by our motto “We sing to bless, not impress.” So, we decided to take it to social media—and that’s how TBTALKBACK was born. What started as a simple idea has now turned into a platform where we share our experiences, friendship, performances, and everything that happens behind the scenes in our journey. It’s been amazing to watch it grow and we hope for great things to come as it becomes a big part in our lives!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout the years, we have faced plenty of challenges in our journey as new content creators and music engineers.

As women in a field dominated by men, we’re often underestimated or not taken seriously. A shared story we have is when we were engineering one of our first sessions with a music artist. We will never forget the time someone came up to us during a session and asked, “Where’s the engineer?” and we had to say, “Right in front of you.” That was one of our first wake up calls in the music industry, the preconceived notion of underestimating us as industry professionals. The event sparked something in us and we started really developing our craft through internships, hands on experience, and a lot of studying. But, even when we prove we know what we’re doing as managers and engineers, some people try to undermine us with backhanded compliments or comments like, “Yeah, you know what you’re talking about, but I know more” making it hard to truly believe in ourselves.

On top of that, managing the technical side of production and balancing it with our creative work has been a constant juggling act. The pressure to keep up with trends, produce quality content consistently, and grow an audience has been overwhelming at times. We’ve struggled with dealing with criticism and trying to gain traction, all the while getting over our own fears of self doubt and embarrassment. Plus, there’s the challenge of being heard and taken seriously in spaces where our expertise is either questioned or brushed aside. But through all of this, one thing that’s kept us going is our friendship—we never face obstacles with each other, and that’s been our biggest strength.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our work has been a mix of creative collaboration, artist management, and technical skill-building. In addition to this work, we are finishing our final semesters as music students at Georgia State University. We are expected to graduate in Spring 2025 with Bachelors of Science in Music Industries with a concentration in Music Production and Audio Recording. Brooke is expected to graduate with her honors and research laureate as well.

As part of our newly formed artist trio, Dissonance, with our friend Jonathan, we’ve been writing songs and are excited to release our music hopefully by next semester. We’ve also worked as background vocalists for several performing artists, including Kai Marion, which has given us valuable live experience.

On the management side, we’ve facilitated successful music releases for artists, helping them get on DSPs like Spotify and Apple Music, land sync placements, get featured on Spotify playlists, radio stations, Instagram, podcasts, news articles, and even secure live performance opportunities.

As performers ourselves, we are constantly working on our voices, developing new skills, and growing our vocal ranges. We’ve done live shows as a duo, singing everything from Disney classics to pop, R&B, country, and Christmas songs. We not only perform live, but in the studio as well doing background and main vocals for a multitude of projects. On the technical side, Tia and I are Pro Tools-certified music engineers constantly developing our skills to ensure we’re seen as industry professionals, not just students.

Our main focus currently is working on building our social media presence on all platforms. We are establishing ourselves as a duo with a brand that blends lifestyle content, comedy, and music that can be classified as “relatable best-friend energy.” Characteristics that describe our brand are trendy yet original, authentic, musical, and lighthearted comedy. In pursing social media, we are working toward securing brand deals and expanding our reach online. We always want to use our platforms to make others laugh and smile.

What’s next?
Our future plans for “TBTALKBACK” will focus on sustainability and growth, establishing not only a lasting presence in the music landscape, but also within the creative community. One of our key initiatives is to film a podcast series. As of now, our focus would be aimed to discuss our experiences in music production, share tips, and interview fellow producers or musicians. This format not only deepens our connection with our audience making it easier to build a community around our shared interests in music and friendship, but also allows us to explore different topics in depth, making it easier to build a community around our shared interests in music and friendship. By sharing behind-the-scenes stories and industry insights, the podcast can attract sponsorships and partnerships, helping to generate income while providing valuable content.

Another exciting aspect of our future plans is to incorporate live performances. As we develop our skills and confidence in music production, we want to seek opportunities to perform on stage—whether at local venues, music festivals, or community events. Performing together will showcase our musical talents and emphasize the bond of friendship that underpins our journey. We can promote these performances through our social media platforms, creating anticipation and drawing in our audience.

To ensure these initiatives are sustainable, we plan to establish a content calendar that balances regular social media updates, podcast filming, and preparation for live performances. Engaging with our audience through Q&A sessions or polls will help us tailor our content to their interests, fostering a sense of community and loyalty. As we grow, we’ll explore additional revenue streams, such as merchandise or online music production courses, to further support the sustainability of “tbtalkback.” By blending our passion for music production with entrepreneurship, we can create a thriving platform that celebrates both our friendship and our musical journey.
