Life & Work with Ebonee’ English

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebonee’ English.

Hi Ebonee’, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I enjoyed helping others either big or small. At an early age, my mother knew that becoming an educator was a gift that I had. Honestly, I wasn’t aware of this “calling” until my first year at Savannah State University. During my first two years at Savannah State University, I consumed heavily on community services. I volunteered at local recreation centers that offered free dance classes for ages 5 to 12. Dancing was the blueprint of how I wanted to manifest a program in these communities I worked. The majority of the children and teens I worked with were low-income and lacked the resources. I could remember the day like it was yesterday. I prayed every day. I wasn’t apprehensive about embarking on this new world of entrepreneurship. I wasn’t afraid of the possibilities of failing or seeing the pit of my downfall. But as a broke college student, I knew that the sky’s the limit. I prayed for a challenge. Indeed it was. In my dorm room, I spent all weekend working on establishing my business. I created this all alone. No mentor. No assistant. I had no help from no one. I knew how passionate I wanted to be an entrepreneur and the love of dance motivated me, even more, to get the ball rolling.

Google was my best friend as I was able to create a website, business plan, even register for an EIN while my peers were out enjoying the festivities that college seems to offer. From that day, is when I created N’spire After School Program LLC. When I transferred to Georgia State University a year later, I knew my program would benefit more from experiences I learned firsthand when I returned home. I later began working in childcare centers and learned a lot in the education industry. Teaching was my niche both in dance and education. I was comfortable with it and, I knew incorporating this within my program wouldn’t hinder me in any way. You may ask what inspired me with creating the name of my business. Look at the irony of that. I wanted a name that means a lot without saying much. A name that holds such power, substance, and compassion to whoever participates in my program. The name “inspire” came easy as I reflected on everything I wanted my program to project without question. This is my legacy to inspire to teach and to inspire to learn.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an entrepreneur, it’s definitely a learning process. I didn’t expect to know everything when I started. But throughout it all, I can attest to that it has helped me tremendously to perfecting as I go. The struggle comes from mapping out your own path especially when you’re the one creating from the ground up. Every road isn’t easy and I wouldn’t want it to be. From my experiences, I learn that every obstacle or challenge is a good sign for growth.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a creative. I create. 98% of my time is spent on working with children and teens. Both in academics and recreational. I’m an educator by day with N’spire After School Program LLC and a dance coach by night managing three youth dance teams. I specialize in educational work which I teach virtual home school for preschoolers to grade fifth. I adore having to work in two industries. I’m proud of being a role model, inspiration, big sister, and confidant. One thing that sets me apart from others is my ability to connect with the children and teens I work with. I cannot explain how but I know it’s magical and is truly a remarkable gift to be blessed with.

Any big plans?
My plans for the future isn’t to become stagnant. I accomplished a lot within the ten years after graduating high school and becoming an entrepreneur at the age of 28. I’m always looking for the next opportunity to grow. I’m planning on expanding N’spire After School Program LLC in the near future so be ready for that!
