Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Schultz.
Bob, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been interested in sports logos. I would study them. Count how many colors they have. Compare the size of the word mark in relation to the whole logo. I would hand draw professional logos in class. I decided that I would create my own logos. I started using the free program Inkscape. Eventually, I switched to Illustrator. I posted some pictures on dribble and people started contacting me to create logos for them. It was a dream come true. I’ve created logos for clients in Quebec, Switzerland, and Australia.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a fairly smooth road. I’m a freelancer and I have a day job. I don’t depend on the income from graphic design. I can decline work if I want to. Working with clients has given me the opportunity to hone my skills over time. When I’m not working on a logo for a client, I’m trying to push myself in new artistic directions.
What role has luck had in your life and career?
I would say that I’ve had good luck in life and my career. I had good luck in meeting my wife. We both chose to go out with friends on the same night and the rest is history. In my career, I’ve been lucky that all the clients I’ve worked with have been really great. The work is much more enjoyable if the client trusts your vision and if they love the finished product.
Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
I feel that I am able to understand what the client is looking for. I’ve never been “off the mark”.
Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
I think Atlanta is great. I’m a foodie, so I really enjoy the wide variety of quality restaurants. The thing I dislike about Atlanta is the traffic.
