Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrena Martin-Tolbert.
Adrena Martin-Tolbert is a 29-year-old fashion designer, author, and entrepreneur hailing from Chicago, IL. She is also owner and founder of AMTolbert Enterprises, LLC., which is the parent company of her two brands CreationZ From A Dove, and VEU Magazine. She initially started CreationZ From A Dove as a fashion company in April 2012, toward the end of her tenure at Tuskegee University. As a soon to be college graduate, she knew that entrepreneurship was something she could see in the near future. She also realized that she wanted to somehow break into the fashion world, creating new and exciting products, for both men and women alike. Her first product was a simple elastic bracelet, which turned into a full line of jewelry and accessory items. Going along with the jewelry, Adrena always had dreams of creating a clothing line, which could fully implement her creative ideas. To make this vision a reality, she learned how to sew, and first started creating her pieces for herself, which immediately gained her a list of clients. Adrena is now a full fashion designer and seamstress, and prides herself on creating “Designs that speak volumes for you.” Adrena uses her creativity to not only dress people fashionably on the outside but internally as well. The CreationZ From A Dove platform is also used to help inspire and motivate others, which is manifested through its various videos, events, and inspiring words.
Going along with her longing to help those around her, Adrena had thoughts of starting a blog, which would allow other entrepreneurs to come on as writers to promote themselves and their business. Starting the blog would be good, but she always thought bigger. After careful consideration, and few conversations with friends, in the summer of 2015, Adrena decided to start her very own magazine. She realized how hard it was for small business owners, underground artists, people, and other issues to gain notoriety from mainstream magazines, so she decided to create something different. The focus of VEU Magazine is to feature, spotlight, and bring awareness to various people, and issues that need to be heard around the world.
Along with being an entrepreneur, Adrena enjoys giving back to the community and helping others in need, which is evident through her membership in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. She desires to one day be able to start a foundation to help other aspiring entrepreneurs receive the necessary training and funding to be successful in their field. Never one to remain stagnant, you can look forward to seeing much more from Adrena, and the AMT Enterprises brand in the future.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My entrepreneurship journey has definitely been one full of ups and downs. Most people expect a college graduate to make the transition into corporate America (at least that was the case for me.) The problem is that I didn’t want that for myself and did the opposite of what most people in my shoes would do. I followed my dreams. Following your dreams is good, but what people don’t see is the amount of sacrifice you have to make, the most important sacrifice being financially. As the saying goes, you have to spend a few years of your life living life most people won’t, so that you can live the rest of your life like a lot of people will never get to experience.
AMTolbert Enterprises – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a fashion designer, author, and entrepreneur. I like to think of myself as an overall “creative being.” Through my fashion company, I specialize in making custom clothing and accessory statement pieces. Fashion for the bold. My journey as a fashion designer is what led me to create VEU Magazine. VEU, which stands for Visionaries and Entrepreneurs United, is a bi-monthly print and online positive lifestyle publication. I am most proud of my abilities to connect so many other entrepreneurs and visionaries like myself. Through my companies, I also host a variety of networking events, which allow me to fully live out my passion for assisting and serving others.
