Akeem, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was always into the arts from childhood whether it was from dancing, plays, and even poetry. I later developed a love for hip-hop as I started writing and formatting songs in high school. By the time I got into college, I started to grow a love for all kinds of music. I even went as far as to create an organization on campus geared toward all types of musicians for them to meet and network. It was then I realized the impact I could make as well as my entrepreneurial skills. Today, I have my very own production company by the name of Ultra-V Productions that caters towards all artists in regards to recording, providing instrumentation, and assistance of writing songs. Ultra-v is not your ordinary Production company, it’s a one-stop shop for videos, podcast, tv series. Photography, dance, vocal lessons. and artist consultation. Not only do we assist with your vision. But we also help mold you into an entrepreneur that can take your own career into your own hands.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been definitely a lot of obstacles and challenges along the way. This industry is full of sharks and con artist so you have to be careful. Besides the fact of me going to job to job while on this journey I have lost a lot of money investing in my career. Besides the risk, you also have to be mindful of the people you have on your team. The people you have around you can make or break you. I landed a distribution deal in 2015 with universal not knowing that all the marketing and advertising cost would fall on me. Not only that, but they never held their end of the bargain, and they never answered any of my calls. The amount of discouragement I felt was unbelievable. It was then I knew that had to start my own production company and find a new team and management.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ultra-V Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Ultra-V Productions is a company that works with an independent and major artist on music, videos, and even professional advice on how to run their own career and brand themselves correctly. The role I play in my company is very hands on as I assist with writing music since I’m an artist myself and setting up consultation appointments. My business partner is a great help when it comes to engineering, instrumentation, and video editing. The thing I’m most proud of is when I hear or even see something that we have helped create on major platforms or seeing it performed live. I want to say the thing that sets us apart is the fact that we want to see everyone that comes through our doors win instead of just trying to make a dollar off of them.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
When it comes to Ultra-v, I eventually plan to get into more filming movies, documentaries, and TV series.
