Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef-Boi-R-Dre.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Fruity Loops 4. I remember putting a virus on my mother’s desktop downloading all my music and movies from Limewire. My classmates in middle school would pay me to make mix CDs in middle school because I was either one of the only kids to do it at my school or the kids that were doing it had already messed up their parent’s computer. In the middle of doing that, I stumbled across Fruity Loops and taught myself to make beats. It always came secondary to Football and Basketball and was just doing it as a hobby all through school. It wasn’t until I left Kennesaw State University when I started to take it on seriously as a career.

Has it been a smooth road?
In this business, it’s always an up and down road. One moment, you’ll have artist buying beats from your left and right, then all of a sudden, you can find yourself with beat block (having trouble coming up with creative juices to work) or finding a new artist to work with. I enjoy the journey because it can boost your confidence but at the same time humble you and motivate you to work harder every day.

What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I am primarily a music producer but also a recording engineer based in Atlanta, Ga. The main genre that I focus on is Hip-Hop but I also like to dive into R&B as well. I just recently created my production company “Global Eye Ent.” and looking to drop my first album as a producer within the next year.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry changes so frequently, it’s hard to predict where it will be in the next two years, let alone, the next 5-10. I believe streaming services will become more artist-friendly and the need to sign to a major label won’t be as highly looked upon.
