Meet Andrea Mielke of Really Fun Science & MielkeWay Education

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Mielke.

Andrea was born and raised in the Midwest. She moved to Athens, Georgia after high school to attend the University of Georgia where she earned degrees in Biology and Italian Studies. After completing her bachelor’s degrees, she went on to complete her Masters in Educational Administration and Policy. She is now a doctoral candidate and upon completion of her dissertation, she will achieve her doctorate.

In addition to her academic and entrepreneurial achievements, Andrea became a foster parent in the state of Georgia at the age of twenty-five (while completing her master’s degree). Since that time, she has fostered more than twenty children. In addition to providing a safe and loving environment for these children, she is their fiercest advocate.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?

The establishment of MielkeWAY Education has been a thrilling, suspenseful, heartwarming, nail-biting, and amazingly rewarding journey. Creating a unique, forward-thinking, and immersive brand has allowed us to truly feel what it is like to be limited only by our imagination. Since the beginning, we have enjoyed the overwhelming support and encouragement of almost everyone we encounter.

Perhaps the most difficult obstacle to overcome has been learning to trust in ourselves. We have a young family and making choices that will affect our ability to provide for our children has been stressful, to say the least. Each set back tries to chip away at the confidence and commitment it takes to be successful as an entrepreneur. This experience has taught us that the more we believe in what we are doing, the more others believe. The more energy and enthusiasm we project, the more we get in return.

What were you like growing up?

My childhood was full of family, freedom, and adventure. Looking back, it is hard not to draw the comparison between the world I grew up in and the one my children experience today. It seems that the world has become more unpredictable. Severe weather drills have evolved into preparations for an active shooter.

We can’t turn back the clocks to a simpler time, but we can provide a place in time where they believe that anything is possible
