Meet Ashley Walls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Walls.

Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My love for music started at a young age. I would go to the mall and sing made-up songs for strangers. As I got older, I kept singing in plays and solo performances at school. It just was something that made me happy but I never thought I would be lucky enough to make a career out of it.

Near the end of my high school years, I realized that songwriting and performing was my calling and that I had to pursue it hardheartedly. I ended up enrolling in the University of Georgia and at the end of my first year there I was performing frequently and got to open up for Billy Ray Cyrus! My music kept gaining traction and, most importantly, I was impacting people’s lives with my songs. I spent lots of time writing, recording, and performing my original music and am happy to say I have a music video out and my songs have gained attention on many streaming platforms.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not. Pursuing music requires endurance and a tremendous amount of sacrifice. One of my biggest struggles has definitely been the balance between being a full-time Terry College of Business student and an artist. I have managed to keep a high GPA and competitive performance schedule by managing my time wisely and not going to all the parties other UGA students attend. Although I have missed out on some awesome events on campus, I would never trade it for the unreal experiences I have gotten through being an artist.

On top of that, music is a tough career path. Being an independent is hard because you end up having to be a promoter, roadie, social media expert, graphic designer, sound engineer, etc. Luckily for me, my parents have stepped up and helped with some of these roles so I can actually continue to write music and go to school.

Please tell us about Ashley Walls Music.
As an artist, my most important goal is impacting others with my music. Sharing stories is the way we communicate as humans and my story sharing is just accompanied by an instrumental track. I think this is what sets me apart from other country artists… instead of just buying lyrics from other songwriters, my songs mean something to me and I am able to translate that live and in the studio.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I would probably say the Christmas Eve gatherings with the entire family. I remember singing with my grandpa as he played his guitar and grandma making some killer peanut butter kiss cookies. It was a moment of serenity as we ate, talked, sang, and then went to the candlelit Christmas Eve service.
