Today we’d like to introduce you to Avonti Adizahyr.
Avonti, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am Avonti Adizahyr, a Woman of God, Mother, Songstress, Songwriter, Author, Philanthropist, Entrepreneur and sooo much more. My story began at the age of 3 when my mother discovered that I have a gift of song. It was also the moment I knew that music is a major part of who I am. I’ve been singing ever since and began writing music and poetry at the age of 11.
Growing up in East Point, GA I attended Tri-Cities High School and was apart of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Magnet Program. The program is designed for motivated students who possess an interest in the areas of Music, Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, or Television Production. Gifted young artists receive highly specialized training in the arts. I honestly believe that those 4 years truly shaped me into the artist that I am today.
At the age of 16, I developed a strong passion for modeling and fashion. I went on to attended John Casablancas Modeling & Acting School to learn more about runway, posing and everything else that the fashion world had to offer. Although I felt that I was at a very great place in my life at that time, I felt that I needed to dig deeper. I didn’t feel like I knew enough about either industry, so I graduated high school, took time off to focus and educated myself on the business side of the music and fashion industries.
During that time, I discovered my love for wanting to be a businesswoman and OWN EVERYTHING I did or even thought about doing. The industries can be cruel BUT I always tell others that it’s all in WHAT YOU KNOW! Learn to handle your business first, then enjoy your gifts! I believe in helping people the best way I can, I feel that it’s necessary and the purpose to why God has blessed me with so many gifts and talents.
My love for helping others is what drove me to start my own businesses and my non-profit organization, “God Is The New Black, Inc.” I published my very first book in 2014 entitled, “Seeking ME” which is my testimony of how I survived a very dark time in my life. From there I’ve published many other books, workbooks and planners to help others to discover their purpose and see their potential.
In all, I started with visions that I know have only come from God and I utilized my faith and prayer to get to where I am and to continue on this amazing journey that I’ve been blessed to take. Myself and my two beautiful boys Larry Mailn II and Leo Maurice are my life and what constantly pushes me to give my all at times when I feel like giving up. I work EXTREMELY HARD every day and night to be their example.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all! There were times when I was almost robbed by music executives, who felt that they had the right to take songs that I wrote and give them to other artists.
Being burnt so much by people who I felt had my back would have to be the biggest struggle for me, not trusting others eventually molds you into thinking that you can do it all on your own, which is sometimes my case and honestly not a bad trait, but it can also hinder you because you need other minds and creatives to help you write the vision.
I just believe that you have to learn how to not only read people but surround yourself with people who want the same things in life that you want. I am blessed to be able to have such amazing people in my corner and I always make sure that I remind them of how appreciative I am to know them.
Being told NO is always a struggle, BUT at this point in my life, I admire those the most. I still fail to this day but I NEVER GIVE UP!

I can always sum up into one word what Atlanta means to me, and that one word is HOME!
I was born and raised in Atlanta and it will always be HOME! Everything to LOVE and nothing to dislike! Home is where the heart is.
