Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayanna Forrester.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started becoming interested in hair around 2009 which was my freshman year in high school. Discovering that many females have self-esteem issues sparked my interest in the beauty industry. I learned we must love ourselves from the inside out. Once we learn to do that, we can work to improve the things that we don’t like and find peace with the things we cannot change. I’ve always had an interest in the Arts. Makeup & Hairstyling is definitely an Art. My sister encouraged me to practice styles on her and myself that we saw Youtube tutorials on.
Doing hair and makeup allowed me to express my creativity. To me, hair styling and makeup are forms of art. Seeing the transformations I was able to create made a lightbulb go off for me. I knew I wanted to help other women and young ladies feel beautiful from the inside out. The Style Spot was birthed. My “business” didn’t really kick off until college. I would do hair and makeup out of my dorm room on campus.
Still “practicing”, the highest price I charged was ONLY $35! My clientele grew by word of mouth on campus. The summer before my Senior year of college, I visited one of my good friend’s salon suite and thought it was a great set up and potential opportunity for me to grow. When home during breaks, I worked in one of the suites/booths. After graduating from Savannah stat University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, I went to Cosmetology school at Aveda Institute Atlanta. When I wasn’t in school, I was in the salon. It was my goal to become better each day and perfect my craft. I received my Master Cosmetologist License in December of 2018. In July of 2019, I decided it was time to expand my brand and explore better opportunities so I relocated my business to Snellville.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth?! No! There is way more to the Beauty Industry than most people know. Navigating through it can be tough in itself. Being an entrepreneur is liberating and challenging at the same time. There are late nights, early mornings, fluctuating income, sacrifices. However, I do believe it’s worth it.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Style Spot Salon – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Style Spot Salon is a one stop shop for makeup, natural hair, braids and extensions. As a company, I am most proud of my continued growth and being about to offer custom experiences for my clients. They are the reason I love doing hair. what sets me apart from others is my “go-getter” attitude, determination, and genuine love and respect for my clients…
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am launching a new luxury hair collection called The Ryya Cheveux Collection. My plans for the future are to open a full-service salon and eventually salon suites. I also plan to develop a self-confidence boosting program for young ladies.
