Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Hertz.
Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After a nearly decade-long career at Spanx, I became a mama and decided to start a blog to document my style and life with baby. While planning my daughter Elle’s first birthday fête, I discovered a love for entertaining and party styling, so I’ve been doing a mix of consulting, blogging and party styling ever since. I’m honored to say my parties have been featured everywhere from Lauren Conrad to 100 Layer Cakelet.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working from home (especially with a baby!) isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. There’s something nice about having a drive home to decompress. But, I wouldn’t trade the flexibility… a big part of me loves that Elle can pop in and say hello (even if, at the time, it can be distracting).
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Born on Fifth – what should we know?
Party styling (also known as event design)! I’m an art director of sorts and love setting a vision for events and working with vendors to bring the vision to life, through florals, location choice, propping, outfitting, you name it! In the near future, I may evolve into the wedding space, as wedding styling is something I’d love to do!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Having a strong aesthetic! It’s ok to know what works well and not to be afraid to edit.
