Meet Brandi Christina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Christina.

Brandi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from Philadelphia, PA, born and raised. I moved to Georgia late September 2019 to further pursue my dreams. I am an inspiring singer/performer, natural hair influencer, and lifestyle vlogger via YouTube. I grew up singing in the church, children’s choir, youth choir, and mass choir; I even joined the gospel choir during my undergraduate years as a college student at West Chester University of PA. I sang my first lead in the church and I loved it; I didn’t want to stop singing. In my teen years, I joined a girl group then later went on to pursue a career as a solo artist. I currently attend Atlanta Institute of Music and Media as a music and technology student with a focus in vocal/studio performance. As for my YouTube channel, I started that about 2 1/2 years ago creating natural, curly hair tutorials and hair product review videos. My hair has been a huge part of my story and I understand how challenging a natural hair journey can be. I believe that a natural hair journey should start at the root. So I use my channel to help anyone along their journey of self-acceptance, knowledge, and love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest struggle has been with myself fighting feelings of being stuck, content, and unmotivated. I have a fear of failing. I fear that if I don’t win and accomplish every dream and goal that I’m pursuing then I am failing and letting down not only my family and friends who support me but myself as well. There were times I allowed that fear to cripple me in opportunities meant for me to shine in. There were also times I didn’t mind that fear and showed up and showed out as expected. I learned to be resilient and believe that my faith in myself, my talent, my purpose, and God overshadows any fear that gets in my way.

I aspire to inspire hope, resilience, and compassion to anyone that has a dream. I strive to be an example for those wanting to break through generational curses of feeling stuck, content, and unmotivated. I plan to use my YouTube platform as well as my love for music to become an authentic and influencing public figure that ignites courage in others to go after what they believe in. I come from a family of many talents but not enough self-belief and it is my goal to change that inhibiting belief to an ambitious belief; not just for my family but for anyone that can relate.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I have a YouTube channel where I promote natural hair, beauty, and healthy lifestyle via video. Since I was in middle school, I have been the girl with curly hair. This fact about me has inspired questions from people throughout my life. Questions like: how did you get your hair like that, how long have you been natural, etc. As a result, I started to look into YouTube to help me during my journey, as well as help other people on their journey. Currently, I am focusing on self-love, authenticity, and self-discovery. I want to use my YouTube platform to share my journey with others.

In the past, I served as a brand ambassador for “Vanity Planet” and “So Official Shop”. I was also a hair demonstration model for the natural hair company “Mixed Chicks”. I hope to continue to work for other companies and brands in the future. I currently attend Atlanta Institute of Music and Media as a music and technology student with a focus in vocal performance and studio production. My goal is to improve my vocal talents as a singer and eventually create and produce my own music.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My friends and family are my biggest supporters throughout this journey. Whenever I need help or suggestions with my YouTube channel such as accompanying me in videos. They are always down to help me. I learned how to be resilient from my mother. She had a lot of odds stacked against her but she kept going and now she is the successful owner of Delia Maria health care agency. It is a reminder not to give up.

I got my love of music from my family and church. As mentioned before, I grew up singing gospel. Gospel music will always be an inspiration to me. I also grew up hearing my father and brother create beats, my brother and his friends practice in their singing group and my sister who loves to act as well as sing. Having a family with so much talent was a big inspiration to me as I grew up. It made me feel that we were meant to be so much more than what we had growing up in Philadelphia.
