Meet Camisha Brown and Sharkeshia Cornelius of Excluzive Enterprises in Riverdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camisha Brown and Sharkeshia Cornelius.

Keshia and Camisha formed an instant friendship in 2006 when they were united through their daughters. The first level of business the ladies ventured into together was a tax preparation business in 2010-“KT&T Accounting”. They started out in the comfort of their homes and as the business grew, they moved into a small office in College Park, Ga. The second level of business was to join the booming hair extension industry in 2012-“Excluzive Hair”. During this time, Keshia was laid off from her job and Camisha did not return to work from maternity leave. Not knowing their destiny, they decided to step out on faith and run their business full times. While the hair extension business started to become slightly saturated, the ladies decided to add a third of business in 2013-“Exclzuive Dance”. They worked diligently to effectively run all businesses while continuing to be great mothers. Many business lessons were learned over the years and made them even better businesswomen. The ladies participated in other various business ventures. They experienced many levels of fear, doubt, ups&downs, however still remained humble. Ultimately, after a couple of years of debating, they decided to expand and create a fourth level of business in 2019-“Excluzive Events”. The sacrifice it took to complete this project was frightening in the beginning. However, ended up being the most satisfying business decision thus far. The ladies continue to successfully run all businesses. Ultimately giving God all the Glory, the “Excluzive” Brand will continue to cultivate and increase in divine order.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have not taken out any business loans during the course of our business, so all investments were made from our personal savings. KT&T, the tax preparation business, has been a smooth business for the most part. We’ve built a clientele who is very confident in our work and expanded based on referrals. They have continued to rely on us for their tax preparation needs and we are very appreciative of that. The first few years were only saw small profits. When starting Excluzive Hair, we took losses when shopping for hair vendors when we got into selling hair extensions. With the renovation in 2013 to form the dance studio “Excluzive Dance”, we thought it would be a good business move to add a pole dance option in the Southside of Atlanta. However, our biggest mistake was venturing into a business that we weren’t hands-on. We had to hire dance instructors to lead the classes. In an instance where a dance instructor canceled at the last minute, we were stuck having to apologize to guests who showed up for a scheduled dance class session. In most cases had to offer free classes for inconvenience. Excluzive Events have been running smoothly thus far. Balancing business and home life sometimes becomes a struggle because alot of time is spent trying to maintain and oversee the businesses. Keeping up with the changes and trends to remain competitive and relevant can be challenging.
