Today we’d like to introduce you to CeCe Rocker.
Thanks for sharing your story with us CeCe. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey today has been interesting. I’ve always known that I wanted to be an entrepreneur; I just didn’t know the type of business that I’d start first. In 2017, I was working at an apparel show at the America’s Mart as a model/sales associate. It was a seasonal gig that I had been booking for five years at the time. My job entailed helping boutique owners pick out the best items to sell in their stores for the season. Every season the owners would request my help and mention how much money I helped their business generate the previous season. That’s when a lightbulb went off in my brain, “Why don’t I start my own clothing boutique”! I then started to plot a plan. This was in May of 2017 and it was also the beginning of it all!
By May 2018 I had graduated from Valdosta State College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration specializing in Marketing. I launched my online women’s store, “Creative Rizk Boutique” two weeks before graduation. Although it was an online storefront, I did three pop-up shops a week at events and conventions in Atlanta, GA to get my brand out there. I did so well vending at events that by October I had decided to start hosting my own events.
October 2018, I partnered with another local online boutique owner and together we launched the “PopUp Boutiques” in Perimeter Mall from October – February 2019. We also, allowed other online business owners to do pop-ups in our store; this was a very successful short-term business venture. January 2019 – May 2019 I launched a 2nd short-term storefront in Mobile, AL collaborating with a luxury hair company.
May 2019, I opened my first solo storefront in North Point Mall in Alpharetta, “Creative Rizk Collectives”. This is a collective space where I allow other small businesses to do product placement and pop up shops in my store.
I was able to accomplish so much in so little time by staying focused and working hard. I took the Rizk although I was doubted, and the road seemed long but it was completely worth it and very rewarding. The best decisions give us anxiety while making them, but it has to happen to elevate. So, “Take the Rizk”!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to becoming an entrepreneur is like playing a daily game of Mario Kart. The turns and bumps are inevitable no matter how much you plan or how smooth the road may appear ahead of you. The weather forecast is always sunny with an unexpected thunderstorm and a possible earthquake. Instead of focusing on the struggles I’d prefer to mention how I overcome my daily struggles.
The first thing is to know yourself, your talents and your abilities. Be honest with yourself about the things you aren’t capable of doing as well. Also, daily prayer and/or meditation with positive affirmations and actions will take you a long way. I encourage finding out your community needs and give back and/or volunteer in your community; this will humble you and help you to meet more people that may be able to help you along your journey. Another thing that I have always done is: daily journaling, writing down your plans, and staying disciplined (do the things you say you will do). Lastly, SUPPORT others; because if I don’t know anything, I know that you get back what you give out.
Please tell us about Creative Rizk Boutique.
Creative Rizk Boutique which has evolved into the Creative Rizk Collectives has a lot behind the name. “Rizk” is a unique way to spell “risk”. By definition, to “take a risk” is to do something although it could result in loss or failure. Anything that could possibly result in failure also has the potential to have limitless success results as well. Being creative involves the imagination and/or original ideas. A boutique is a small store selling fashionable clothes or accessories.
By combing all three of these words’ meanings, Creative Rizk Boutique has created an empowering avenue that encourages women to look into themselves and do the things they love or dream of regardless of the risk. Failure is always a possibility, but you will never know if you don’t “Take the Rizk” and attempt to succeed. While on that journey we at Creative Rizk encourage you to look amazing while doing so at a price that you can manage while providing top-notch customer experiences.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t do much different. I’d just suggest getting funding for business capital rather it be grants, loans, or investors to fund your venture versus using your own personal capital. Other than that, I feel like I am moving in the proper direction with vision.
