Today we’d like to introduce you to Che Smith.
Che, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had a passion for nails from a young age due to watching my mother grow in the industry as a nail tech/salon owner. I started practicing acrylic nails around the age of nine and grew to love it. Though it was a hobby for a long time, I didn’t decide to make it a career until I grew to be uncomfortable with regular work life. I wanted more and knew I had a skill I can use to live the life I wanted. I enrolled in the nail technology program at Georgia Career Institute in April 2019 while still working my full-time federal government job. I graduated in December and started Unruly Nailz in February 2020. In the month of March, I closed business until late April due to the pandemic. Since reopening my clientele has increased tremendously. In just nine months, I’ve built my clientele to where I was able to resign from my job and be the entrepreneur I’ve always dreamt of being.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a new business owner, I had to learn to budget, when I started seeing daily money, it was important for me to know what’s actually mine and what needs to go back into the business plus bills etc.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Unruly Nailz – what should we know?
I am a nail artist specializing in acrylic designs such as marble and encapsulated nails. I am proud of how quickly I’ve grown my business using social media and word of mouth, my clients are so satisfied with my services and professionalism that they recommend. Word of mouth advertisement means the most to me. I do my best to be punctual at all times and make sure my clients are satisfied with my work before leaving. I have what clients are looking for in-service providers, I seek services as well so I treat my clients how I would like to be treated.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’m very driven. I move when I’m not comfortable and I always want more.
