Meet Chenae Glaze-Cook of Glazed Creations ATL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chenae Glaze-Cook.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I think I’ve always known deep inside that I would eventually make a career out of creating things. As a child, I was very creative. I liked things like coloring, drawing, and writing and as I grew older, those likes turned into passions. Glazed Creations, however, wasn’t born until my late 20’s, as a way to cope with a life-changing event. I needed to find a way to stay occupied, so what a better way to keep myself busy than to indulge in my passions?

In the beginning, I only sold hand-sewn clothing and hand-painted jewelry. Then in the summer of 2016, I had brain surgery. I awoke with partial paralysis of the left side. It only lasted about 15 minutes but when I regained feeling on the left side, I didn’t regain strength. I spent a month in a rehabilitation center to learn basic functions and another 11 months relearning more complex things.

After the year of rehabilitation, I discovered that I had a new ability to paint that wasn’t there before! (I also noticed a difference in my drawing skills.) I was out shopping for art for our new home and I just couldn’t find what I was looking for. My husband asked me, “Why don’t you try to paint something yourself?”, and proceeded to buy me my first canvas even though I insisted that I couldn’t do it. He bargained that we could continue looking for art but AFTER I attempted the canvas myself. I reluctantly agreed.

When I sat in front of that canvas, I immediately noticed something was different. It was like looking at a blueprint… like my hands knew just what to do. Painting felt like second nature to me. So I began painting as a form of therapy. I eventually decided to add my paintings to my business. Fast forward a year and a half and here we are now!

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? What’s that? Just kidding. Business has been running smoothly and for that, I’m so grateful to God and my wonderful Husband. He’s truly been a blessing from God.

Now the road leading up to this point in my life was everything but smooth. You don’t realize just how much your brain does until it’s not functioning like it uses to. He put me in a position where I truly had to learn how to let go and let God. I had to learn how to trust His plan for my life and realize that I couldn’t control everything.

I had to learn to walk again for this moment. I had to learn how to feed myself again for this moment. Something as simple as using a straw… yep, I had to learn that again for this moment. I still have things I’m conquering to get back to 100% but I fought hard to get where I am today and I don’t take that for granted. God broke me down only to build me back up 10x’s better.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Glazed Creations ATL., LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Glazed Creations ATL’s is an Atlanta based, family business that specializes in African culture inspired products. We offer a variety of handcrafted items such as clothing, art, skincare/hair-care products, custom jackets, jewelry, and much more!

Our mission has always been to uplift, empower and support melanted people around the world, especially the children. We believe in the power of representation so we created a series of coloring and activity books for little brown boys and girls that also offers a daily affirmation for them to remind them that they are enough just the way they are.

I think what sets us apart the most is our focus on uplifting those that have been torn down for so long.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Atlanta’s culture! From the food to the people, the music to the history, I love it all. Everything but the traffic! That would be my main dislike.
