Meet Chris Jones of The Kuntry Klub in West Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Jones.

Chris, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started back in 2009 when we were operating as a record label. I used to hire other photographers to capture promotional photos for my artists. Eventually, I picked up a camera and began to shoot content for my artists out of convenience and enjoyment. Due to my art education at Georgia State University, I already had an eye for visual composition. However, to improve my skills, I partnered with event promoters and publicists in the city to photograph album releases, award shows, concerts and store grand openings.

Around this time, I started making music videos for our artists as well. The videos were not as polished as some others, but they were effective and gaining attention. Soon, we were getting recognition from a variety of musicians throughout the city to film their music videos as well. Eventually, my partner and I changed our business model to create content for all artists. Over the years, we have expanded to include filming and photographing weddings, advertising for small to medium-sized businesses and eventually growing to the larger content creation company that we are today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. In fact, we had quite a few challenges early on. Even though I had a mentor to help me get started, there were a lot of things that I had to learn through experience. When I first started, I was not aware of things like business insurance to protect my employees and camera gear, release forms with talent prior to publishing, contracts with clients prior to accepting the job and what I consider to be the most important… buying the right equipment the first time. However, I can honestly say that resources like The Atlanta Photographers Guild and YouTube have guided me along the way.

The Kuntry Klub – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So, our business is called The Kuntry Klub and that name originates from our former record label. Even though we are no longer a record label, we chose to keep the name because of the brand recognition that we already had established.

The Kuntry Klub is a content creation company. Essentially, I am a photographer and a cinematographer. I used to specialize in music videos and that is what we were known for initially, but now we specialize in weddings and content creation for small businesses. I think what I am most proud of is the fact that we have been an active company for more than ten years. A lot of businesses rarely make it past five years.

I would like to say it is my skill set or creativity, but what really sets us apart from others is our professionalism and our stability. I know so many photographers and camera operators who have picked up a camera to have only set it down a few years later.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been many moments that I am proud of throughout my careers such as the opportunities to photograph Drake’s first performance in Atlanta and to have worked in places like Italy, Portugal and Bali. However, what I am most proud of is when we completed our first short film. This is my first time working with a crew of people and learning the intricacies of the film industry.
