Meet Cindy Katherine Olascuada of Muffins and Glitter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Katherine Olascuada.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always envisioned Muffins and Glitter in my mind ever since I can remember. But to see my dream morph into reality has been absolutely a blessing. Life changing.

My vision was to create a clothing line named Muffins and Glitter. Why the name, you may ponder. My mother always called me muffin growing up as a kid. She used to call me “panquesito” which is Spanish for muffin. The glitter part came because in 9th grade, my best friend and I would rock glitter on the corner of our outer eyes. We thought it made us look super glamorous. Thus a ferocious, glitter monster was born: Muffins and Glitter!

M&G: Muffins and Glitter is more than a simple clothing brand. It’s a style of living a fun, creative, spontaneous, energetic life. We aspire to bond many beautiful, intelligent, creative minds to dream wild and empower one another. Promoting indomitable spirits to believe and achieve their dreams. M&G represents an idea of possibility.

It started with an idea, but I decided to take initiative and action in order to see the M&G vision come to life. With the help of my younger sister, Kimberly, we put the plan in motion and created several designs. We thought about the color schemes and message. We wanted to create high quality, stylish products, all for a good budget’s worth! All of our products have exclusive M&G patches that are personally sewed on too such as our hats, sweaters, t-shirts and tank tops.

Once Muffins and Glitter launched, my brother Mauricio, suggested creating a clothing brand for men or making it unisex, so we branched out with the sibling brand and abbreviated Muffins and Glitter with M&G. Our “Mejor Bebe” Barcode hats became one of our most popular seller for both the men’s and women’s department. Success had came knocking at our door.

Fast forward to today, my M&G team (both Kimberly and Mauricio) and I are working on the Spring and Summer 2018 Collection. We have a couple of photo shoots in line, models booked, so be on the look out at our online store www.muffinsandglitter.com or follow us on Instagram (@muffinsandglitter) for the fashion scoop and inspiration, outfit of the day ideas and our mini show “Motivational Mondays” in which we cover topics on life, success and the law of attraction. M&G’s Future Plan is too keep living the dream of fun, creativity and overall great energy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
At first, it was hot mess. I had the clear vision in mind but to translate that over to paper and make it into a plan was a bit of a struggle. As a matter of fact, I had to postpone M&G’s first photo shoot twice! I had everything ready go: the models, the photographer, location and studio, but life and its external forces got in the way. First time, I had to postpone was because my father had a heart stroke and was in the hospital. So I rescheduled, but a week later, I was involved in a pedestrian vs. auto accident! And yes, I got hit by a car and fractured my knee. So, I was on crutches for the longest time ever. It was huge setback especially because I was just preparing to launch my clothing brand. But I did not let that get to me, I relied all faith in God and prayed for the best. I was in an emotional rut, pain medication and unable to walk. I kept thinking, “How will I be able to pull this off?” Now, I know things happen for a reason and I profoundly believe in God’s Timing. Even though, it took me a little longer than expected, I was able to pull though with our first photo shoot.

Muffins and Glitter’s first photo shoot took place in the snow this year! Yes, Winter Wonderland! It never snows in Atlanta, so being able to capture the beautiful aesthetic of sparkly, white snow was truly a blessing, And yes, I was out in the cold with my millennial pink, Hello Kitty rain boots, knee immobilizer and crutches directing the photo shoot! It was a struggle, but not impossible. The dedication and passion I have for Muffins and Glitter is what lead me through the way. Finally, I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Muffins and Glitter – what should we know?
Muffins and Glitter designs, creates and builds possibility for future generations that are yet to come. We are known as a fun, clothing and accessories brand. What I am most proud of is working as a team together. I am blessed that my team consists of my siblings and amazing individuals that I count on for support like graphic designer Joshua Brown (Founder of the Big October Clothing Brand) and biggest mentor, former CNN Film Producer Richard Beltran that have guided me through out the way.

What makes Muffins and Glitter genuine is the message that we are trying to get across. “Be fun, creative, energetic. Be you!” This is what we live for! We work with many young talented, creative individuals. Dancers, models, Yoga lovers, skaters, Instagram influencers, you name it! The sparkle they have in their eyes while participating in the photo shoot is what brightens my heart. They believe in the M&G message. They want to be part of something amazing and great and I believe Muffins and Glitter has that to offer. Both fashion and a fun lifestyle.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family has been my main supporter and back bone; especially my mother! They have always believed in my drive and passion for this project. Now, they are part of Muffins and Glitter, too and I think that is what makes it more fun! My team consists of my little sister, Kimberly Olascuada. She is super artistic and a great graphic designer even at such young age. We work together on creating on all the designs, slogans and marketing campaigns. My brother, Mauricio Olascuada, is the film photographer of the M&G Team. He helps plan all the photo shoots and takes care of editing the work. I am the creative director of the crew, so they always help me bring out my creativity to its full potential.

My mentor and great friend, Joshua Brown, founder of the Big October Clothing Brand, was there when it all started. The Muffins and Glitter Madness. He helped me set up a couple of M&G’s Pop Up Shows some of which took place at Iridium located in Castleberry, Atlanta. In addition to that, he helped create the Muffins and Glitter Logo and gave me helpful insight on how to run a clothing brand company.

Richard Beltran has also played a big part of Muffins and Glitter. Using his former CNN Film Producing skills to help direct most of the photo shoots and filming. One that was over all my favorite! Our Midtown fashion shoot was a huge success! Fun Fact: We decided to include our furry stuffed animal friend, Chewbacca to be part of it. That is what got Atlanta Voyage’s Magazine attention actually! But overall, Richard has offered direction and guidance. I am profoundly thankful for that.

Lastly, M&G Team Models: Sisters Noodles and Yasimi Nuñez, Stephanie Herrera, Alyssa Shields, Anusha Rastogi, Yessenia Ramirez and Gabriela Olvera. I could not have asked for a more amazing group of strong, beautiful women. As well as the guy models who participated in the M&G Shoot: Edgar Ramirez, Raul Capriles, Marco Garces, Cordaro Gross, Mauricio Olascuada and Joshua Brown. My supporters Stacy Avila, Reyna Angeles, Ana Sanchez, Melissa Aguirre and Genesis Colon.
